I was just thinking how well the bike was running on the way to work. It's had new plugs a couple of weeks ago and last weekend we cleaned out the airbox, cleared the breather pipes and this weekend fitted a new air filter. I got 30 miles up the motorway to work (in the rain if it makes any difference) when I lost one cylinder. It was okish at a constant speed but any hard acceleration caused it to miss. Coming off the M5 it was ok to accelerate hardish in 1st and 2nd but not in 3rd or higher. Having said that it seems (touch wood) to have cleared up by the time I got to work.
Could it be damp? Or a clogged jet?

I have the same problem with my old D6. Advice I've had on here suggest maybe a faulty HT lead or coil.
FWIW I only ever notice it in the wet.

I'll look into getting some replacements. I wondered whether it was that or because I'd tipped the tank up to get at the air box I'd disturbed some sediment. But the bike has a fuel filter though so it shouldn't be that.

Could just be the ht cap, the bit that fits over the plug, they do crack with age

But the bike has a fuel filter though so it shouldn't be that. I wouldn't bank on the filter capturing all. Though it'sd more likely, if fuel-related, that it's water you've disturbed at the bottom of the tank.

After the first issue (run out of fuel, then misfiring after refill) about a month or two ago Simon put some fuel additive in the tankwhich is supposed to absorb water. I haven't repeated the treatment but there's been lots of fresh fuel in it since and not much standing around. Still always worth another go. I might drain the tank and flush it out with something this weekend.
