Help please, the last couple of days my gears have been really stiff and hard to change gear, I initially thought it was a seizing lever but alas not, having only had this bike for a short time could a lack of oil change cause this?
Any help greatly appreciated

Chain too tight or dry.
Go for the easy stuff first.

Hard to change gear: Sounds like clutch cable adjustment to me.

Hard to change gear: Sounds like clutch cable adjustment to me. But you don't need the clutch when moving so if its still stiff look elsewhere. Neil

Neil Many people use the clutch up & down the box whilst moving. In fact, I think most do. I guess the question for Chris is: Do you mean the gear lever itself has physically stiffened up? Or do you mean that when you pull in the clutch to change gear, finding that next gear is troublesome?

clutch appears to be fine M40man, Neilmud wasn't aware the chain could cause issues like this you learn something new every day, to answer that yes it is dry i'll give that a go and see what happens
Cheers guys

It is when changing gear with the gear lever, I have removed the lever cleaned and greased it but no difference

With the 600 on its centre stand the chain should look very loose. With the bike on its wheels sit on the bike and check there is 20mm of slack in the chain. I personally prefer 30mm but no more as that can lead to the chain jumping a sprocket.

Old oil can give stiff or clunky gearchanges. My 600 isn't particularly prone to it but my old ZZR600 was. You could tell when an oil change was due when the gears started crunching.

I had a Z750 many years ago that was a bit neglected due to no money, the oil change was put off and off until the gear lever would no longer return on its own, it had to be pushed back into centre position by boot before another gear could be selected, an oil change cured this

Thanks for all your advice... I'll try an oil change first, and then see what happens... Cheers, Lee
