Hello all. New owner of a 97 divi 600.I've noticed that I get a lot of vibration in top gear especially from 3k revs to 5..5k revs. This appears to be coming from the rear of the bike.It does reach a sweet spot about 6k and is ok up to 8k when it returns. The bike is fitted with a top box and I wondered if this was making the problem worse. I am going to sync the carbs and check all nuts/bolts.It recently had new wheel bearings.Any thoughts welcomed.

A mouse mat is your answer under the top box it works for me.

vibrations ONLY in top gear??
divvi quite usual for small vibrations around 4k regardless of gear.. carb balances help, but best to avoid that 'spot'
mine was 4k , so 60mph in top! just had to go faster..vibes went. not heard of them returning though, further up the rev range.
now i'm talking vibes through handlebars and foot pegs here.

Thanks for the replies. I don't get vibes through the handlebars or footpegs, it seems to come from the rear of the bike and the frame, just in top gear. Carb balance was spot on but I noticed that the rear wheel spindle was not torqued up to the correct figure, I have remedied that but no change. Closer inspection of the chain and sprockets have found no problems so maybe it is the top box. 'll try the mat trick as Neil suggests and report back. If I can get rid of this quite severe vibration then this is truly the best bike I have ridden in all my 40 years.
Cheers,Steve

Is it only in top gear, or at a certain speed? If you're travelling at 4k revs in top then drop a gear, keeping your speed constant, does the vibration go away?
If not, you might be looking at something caused by the airflow over the bike at those speeds rather than anything in the drive chain.

Could be the sprocket carrier bearing!

Do you really mean vibes - as in physically shaking the bike, or is it really a rattle?
The normal vibes from the engine around 4k will make anything loose rattle - and sometimes it's hard to tell where it is.
I was convinced I had a rattle somewhere in the front of my fairing - and traced it eventually to the little panel between the ends of the side panels above the rear light!
Look at all the bits around the bike which might rattle - all fairing mounts, the silly plastic vents in the side of the fairing, the bit I mentioned, look for a spanner in the back of the underseat space (or a disc-lock), etc etc.

No it's not a rattle. Fairing and panels are all tight. This is a deep seated vibration which as I say doesn't affect the handlebars or appear to be coming from the engine area. I've put a mouse mat under the top box and it has made a slight difference so the box is coming off and I'll try it without.Sprocket carrier bearing is a possibility I guess so I'll take the rear wheel off at the weekend and have a good poke around/ check for bearing play also in the swinging arm. Many thanks for all your help/ suggestions, keep them coming. Cheers,Steve.

Just a quick thought, I had a Kawasaki 750 that did this many moon's ago and it turned out to be a badly fitted and balanced rear tyre ! Something else to check !

Ok, Top Box removed and whey hey no vibrations ! Well nearly none. also found the carbs slightly out of sync. Now just have a very slight buzz at 4K. I can live with that !
