I am starting to plan my winter lay off service and fettling schedule. One of the jobs I would like to tackle is tidying up the front of the engine. Can anyone recommend a nice easily applied silver paint or any tips on painting the engine, Never done one before.I plan to strip down as much as possible but leave engine in frame. Attached pic was the winter strip down two years ago. Thanks in advance Attachments:

Hi HGP....I used Halfords very high temp paint...says good for up to 500 degrees centigrade ....I cleaned the surfaces thoroughly and applied the paint in warm conditions.....the tin says touch dry in 15 -30mins...and cured in an hour once the engine temp is raised.....it didn't dry in 30mins as it was still rubbing off on my hands , maybe I had to much paint on but the finish looked good.....6 months on and the paint no longer rubs off and the finish is actually still quite good.....less than a tenner for the tin too...

The biggest issue is getting rid of the dirty oxide layer.
Clean the metal with a stainless steel wire brush and use a self etch primer. There is no need to use VHT paint. Alloy wheel silver paint will work fine.
