After discovering leaky oil cooler pipes I managed to find a set of replacements...went out to have a look at fitting them today and can't for the life of me see how you would get an Allen key into the upper bolts that mount onto the oil filter housing....on the throttle side it's pretty tight but on the clutch side is even less room....if I round the bolts I will be in sorts of trouble!! Can anyone help out with what tools they used and how they got over the problem please

Hmm, just had a quick look at my D9, yup it's a bit tight in there to say the least.
Would assume it's the same set up as the D6 and the adaptor plate, the bit the filter screws up to, is held on by the bolt that the filter screws on. If I was tackling the job, I think I would undo the adaptor retaining bolt to let the whole assembly swing forward.
Are you replacing the pipes completely? If you are the top pipe joints will have to be undone so see if you can remove the whole assembly to the bench and then tackle the allan bolts.

When we replaced the RHS one on JTB's D9, we shortened the 'short end' of an allen key, to get in - later realising it was accessible with the long end of a ball-end allen key, nice & straight, passed the frame etc.
Didn't do the LHS, so I don't know how tricky that side would be.

When I did mine I had to take off the exhaust to get the oil cooler boss off the bike. There was just not enough room to get the pipes off any other way. However, a Dremel tool could cut the flexible hose ferule then the hose can be pulled off the metal pipes. As said elsewhere, if using silicone oil hoses use a worm clip one size too small and loosen it right off to fit over the hose. It will then tighten down correctly. Fluoro lined silicone hoses look quite nice with stainless hose clips and they fit under the cylinder block clamp.

Cheers all...yeah I got complete oem replacements 2nd hand for 25 quid delivered...happy with that....so am replacing the lot top to bottom.
Interesting idea taking whole filter housing off the throttle side you could just do in situ but clutch side looks impossible to me

Tackled this today and everything is now apart just waiting for some copper grease so I can put everything back together...it would appear that all the fixings and the metal unions on the pipes themselves have completely rusted... Gonna hammerite everything before it goes back to avoid the drama again!

Good luck with the Hammerite. Its not as tough as they would have us think.
