I am pretty sure that the thicker stud part is M8 but I can't guarantee that. I expect someone here will know.

the 900 uses M8 exhaust studs. I'm 99% sure the 600 also does.
Scrap the horrible socket nuts and use stainless dome nuts.

You can make that 100% sure, I'm trying to fit a Delkevic 4-1 system at the moment and I'm having to buy new studs because the stock studs aren't long enough with the gaskets inserted. Unless anyone has any better ideas? I think I'll just pay a mechanic to do this next time.

If not, that could account for the studs appearing short.

I had a good dig around in there and I couldn't seem to find any. I'll have another look tomorrow. EDIT: You were right, I've dug out the old gaskets and put the new ones in, but I am still having some problems with very slight leakage. It is at least ridable, so I think I will ride it down to the workshop and get them to sort it out, I need a few other things doing anyway. Thanks for the help.

I also had problems with leakage from the Delkevic pipes. The fix was to assemble everything loose then do up the cylinder head nuts and try to keep it all flat. The downside is keeping the tube gaskets in place into the collector (it was a 900). I got there in the end but when the downpipes began to get rough and pitted I realised a specialist like Xtreme Stainless would have been no more costly and probably better quality.
