Well, Sorry but I've finally decided to sell the bike and have put a deposit on a 2002 TDM 900. So I need some advice on the best way to sell the old girl. When you sell is it better to strip all the accessories off, put it back to standard and sell the bits seperate ? Touring screen by skid marks, Yamaha crash bars Givi rack Fender extender. Or better to have everything on it. The bike is 2000 on a W reg with 21,300 miles on it, and is RED !! I've looked on E-bay and in Auto - trader and there are some being advertised, again not sure of the best way to sell it. Any advice, gratefully received. Cheers, Ivan

most dealers do not take into account any extra's on the bike. They would not make it back in a sale. Imho, it is far better for you to remove any extras and put the original stuff back on it (if you still have the original bits that is). You stand to make a lot more on the aftermarket bits then you will from any dealer. hth Keith

Got the origonal bits, but its not selling it to the dealer, its advice on selling it private.
I'm not sure what would sell better or realy .. faster.
Everything on it , or as it cme out of the show room.

If you do decide to take them off I'd be interested in the Yamaha engine protector bars.

Well - I have bought one or two bikes. This is how I see it as a buyer....
If there are several bikes I'm interested in (& there usually are!), then I look for the one which carries the sort of extras I'd want to put on it myself. If it's price is close to the alternatives - that the one I buy.
If it's been priced to 'reflect all these lovely extras' I'll like as not go for the best of the rest. (That is - the extras will make me favour that bike - but I won't pay much/any extra for it.)
Of course if you want the best price hang on for a few weeks yet. The best time to sell is nearly upon us.

I take your points about making it more attractive, than a similar one. Whats the best time to sell ? Easter? Cheers, Ivan

I would have thought by now, every one had accepted, that Red, is at the faster end of the spectrum of light, therefore even standing still.... a red bike is traveling faster than any other colour . E=mc2
I am putting the bike in the bike show room I'm getting the TDM from,on a sale or return basis. If after a month its not sold, I'll put it on E-bay for a quick sell.
See how I get on.
Someone might want a Red XJ 900, over a green one that has been in the shop for 6 months now !!!!!
Cheers, Ivan

Sq-yooze me... I got the engine bars request in 1st :-)
Have to differ (there's a change), Green is deffo the fastest bike colour. But all light travels at the same speed. Only the frequency changes.
The snag with Diversions in shops is the punters get hooked by all the latest models on show. Good luck, but don't scrap the ebay account.

Just to keep you all up to date.
put the XJ 900 in Ormskirk Motorcycles on a sale or return,
Polished it up before I did and it was .......
SNATCHED UP !!!!!!!! within one day.
So there is still a good market out there.
Ironicaly, the lad who bought it part exchange a GT550 for it, exactly what I did for it two years ago.
Must be the natural progression.
Selling all my bits and bobs from the XJ on Ebay.
So apart from cleaning the bike because you love it, it pays when you come to sell.
Cheers, Ivan

Do you still have the engine protectors?

Sorry,
Left them on, along with the Givi wing rack.
Thought it would influnce the sale a bit if the new buyer, did'nt have to buy them. Plus the chrome was spotless on them and it helped the look. Probably the right decision, as it sold so quick.
If it was a trade in , I would have put it back to how it was origonally.
Cheers, Ivan
