1995 Divi 600 , running and going great , sudden elec problem. Indicators went erratic, back in garage had a look. Indicators working fine when ignition only and engine off.Start engine and off side indicator goes haywire !!!! Same with all lights , ok ignition only , start up and they are blinking away , dimming , brightening all by themselves ..... help please , I love mechanics , hate electrical probs......

Check for a bad earth. Take a direct earth from indicators & lights to see if it goes away then look to see where its adrift.

Also check for loose connection(s) It COULD be that there's a dodgy connection that works ok when the bike is static but makes and breaks when its running (vibrating)

Have you tried a new bulb?
I have had a similar problem with a light flickering only with the engine running, and fixed it by changing the bulb. I think that the filament was broken but touching, and so the slightest vibration would make and break the circuit.
Its such an easy fix, it's worth trying before anything else. Have to say though that it is probably something else.

Also check for loose connection(s) It COULD be that there's a dodgy connection that works ok when the bike is static but makes and breaks when its running (vibrating) +1 Or What about a dodgy fuse that is only affected by vibration? Change all fuses to eliminate that. Or What about an intermittent short circuit. e.g. Where the loom on mine comes up the right side of the frame under the tank, and past the carbs, the tail of a carb rubber clamp sticks out and would one day wear through to a wire. I corrected this. But it sounds as though something similar might have happened - something has finally worn through and makes a short to earth, but only makes contact at times of vibration as Roger says. If it affected only 1 thing you'd look along the wire to that item. As it seems to affect all lights, you're probably looking further back up the loom towards where the electric comes from. Good luck

Best electrical advice for me last year when I had the same fuse blowing time after time......... Working from the back or the front trace all the wires/connectors on the whole loom for bad contacts, shorting, properly 'connected' etc. I found three dubious points and it solved the problem. I think it was a short but not sure.........
