Do you travel overloaded? Just posted on another thread about our cruising speed, even when fully baggaged. Unfortunately SWMBO has no idea of what can be taken, 2-up, on a bike. Here to prove it is a piccy taken waiting for the Portsmouth to Bilbao ferry where at the other end we have a 880km day trip back down to home! Comments and photos welcome ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) ![](http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m162/solentsailor/Overloaded.jpg)

You would be hard pushed to beat John the Bowman when it comes to luggage. Can't find a pic of his Divvy loaded but here is an old pic of his pushbike with plenty of luggage !! Hope you don't mind me posting the pic JTB, if so let me know and I will remove it. Regards Dave ;D ![](http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t78/davepascoe/jtbluggage.jpg)

Thats some luggage carried, as stated, on a single disk 600, so how does braking distance increase??? ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png)

Tragically, my body weight is higher than the recommended load for a XJ600S!

For those that asked and also for those that thought "where did you sit"? The answer is most uncomfortably. Fortunately, the journey to the port was a quick one, we had just left our little boat on the Gosport side of Portsmouth Harbour. As you will imagine, certain "tackle" was extremely squashed and my upper body was leaning heavily on the tank bag. This left just enough room for SWMBO to fit on with her rucksack hanging off her shoulders as it had to sit on all the bungeed stuff sitting on the rear tail.
Fortunately, we had 36 hours on the ferry to try and sort it out. The longshot being that only one (reduced in size) rucksack was worn and the other, with extra gear was not only bungeed but excessively roped onto the rear tail. Talk about top heavy!
BTW, braking was never a problem and the single disc coped admirably!

Its a myth that single disc D600s are weak on the brakes. My 600 was more than good enough and it got well loaded with gear (but maybe not to this extent) and cost less to service :-).

My single disc Divvi has fantastic brakes. I've got the braided line and HH pads and i think 5.1 fluid and they are fantastic. don't quite know what the bikeshop did but they are awesome and they make a cool noise. How easily pleased i am.

Its a myth that single disc D600s are weak on the brakes. Totally agree. My standard old 94 single disc brake and calliper was easily powerful enough to lock the front or stoppie. The tyres are the weak point not the brakes. Or are people saying you can't stoppie a single disc bike? My theory is that twin discs are far more about dissapating heat that outright braking performance. I took the front pads out of my B12 a couple of weeks back and they're tiny. You could easily get the sheer stopping power by doubling the size of the pads and using a wider disc. What you couldn't do is disspate the heat. This is just my theory, of course. I also notice the b*st*rds give you pads with 4mm of 'meat on them which suggests strongly to me that most of the braking performance is redundant. Of course on the track with somebody good things might be different. What twin discs do do is prevent any kind of useful access to the front wheel and cost £30 at pad time instead of £15. ![>:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/angry.png)

Agree with that. Granted I never tried a twin disc 600, but my single disc was fine. Even with my weight behind it...
Mind you, can't half notice the difference with my blue spots ;D

Costablancabiker, how long does it take you to ride from Bilbao to Torre? Curious cos I've got a mate in Los Alcazares that I was thinking of visiting sometime.

Costablancabiker, how long does it take you to ride from Bilbao to Torre? Curious cos I've got a mate in Los Alcazares that I was thinking of visiting sometime. I normally take around 10 1/2 hours which includes all my stops for fuel and refreshments. I know I have to make the miles up and I find it better to make more (frequent) stops of a short period than one stop of a long period. I also plan it that when I do have one of my stops, I time it so that I need to stop anyway for a fuel top_up. Route is easy. Take the toll road from Bilbao until you have passed close by Vitoria in the outer foothills of the Andorra Mountains and then continue via Burgos and Madrid using the dual carriageway N roads.

Gordy, your snowy shot looks much like I did a few weeks ago when I went Cardiff to Derby in the snow and going so slow for such long stretches ran out of petrol. Normally 200 miles to the tank; I managed 130. My brother was well chuffed having to come out to Tamworth with the spare fuel can.
But the D600 was rock steady on ice cobbles or slush & had I checked the fuel level would have made far better progress than any car (though perhaps a bit less confy in the personal risk department).
