As i regularly do short commutes back and forth to work my oil gets gunked up with that horrible white stuff and the moisture doesn't get burnt off as it should. Has anyone got any experience of an oil additiove that works to combat this but at the same time doesn't harm the effectiveness of the oil?

Not really a great deal you can do about it apart from caning the bike on a regular basis.

Well not actually 'cane it'. If, as you say it's a short commute then you do'nt want to cane a cold engine anyway!
It helps to keep the revs up, use a lower gear and keep it buzzing will help.
You could, maybe change your route to add a few miles?
Failing that change the oil more frequently.
Jim

By using additives you could end up end with clutch slip, so not a good idea. Cheers Pete

I think there is some sound advice in here somewhere. Just to make sure I've got this right - I should cane my bike in low gears and take a route to work that ups my 5 mile commute to 50 miles and change my oil every other week and I shouldn't have any more oil problems. Failing that, I should fit a 4 ft chain on the bike to save Gurninman the trouble of stretching it and lend it to him for the day so he can give me a reason to fit brand new pads to the front brakes.
