Just back from a trip to Kircudbright near castle douglas and had five days of sunshine we couldnt believe our luck. Travelled to Portpatrick which is near Stranrear and also went to Loch Ken. Anyway 750 miles on a xj900 and never missed a beat. A fantastic bike that would ride all day the only thing letting it down is the soft squidgey thing on the seat. Happy days. ;D 63000 miles and still counting....

Glad you enjoyed your visit to Scotland. Gordy, Ronnie (suzukikidontheloose) and I were in Kirkcudbright yesterday afternoon! diversionclub.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=runsmeets&action=display&thread=18456Just a quick visit for a fish supper at the chippy next to the car park where the tourist information place is. We did the west side of Loch Ken on the way there, and the east side on the return journey. One of my favourite areas, and Kirkcudbright is only 100 miles from home .

That road from Ayr to Castle Douglas is one of my favourites - fast and curvy rather than twisty1 Just don't speed through Carsphairn, a cop with a speed camera is there a lot. Also, watch that nasty bend just entering St John'stown of Dalry. It catches a lot of truck drivers out, and there's a truck lying on is's side at least once a month!

These threads are no use without Photographs. If you haven't been before a few photos here might persuade some more from South of the border to venture North. (Not that it's very far North) Mind you most of the photos posted here are of bunches of fugly old gits standing around in car parks*. * Yes I know this Fugly old git didn't make it as far as the car park on JR12.

The road from Ayr to Castle Douglas is indeed good on a bike, especially when it's dry. The surface while you're in Ayrshire is pretty bad in places... it improves dramatically the instant you cross the border to Dumfries and Galloway. My parents moved to Kirkcudbright a few years ago and I've still only managed down on the bike once... we normally have kids and/or dog in tow so have to take the car
