Just back from the Manx GP

A couple of mates and I decided to go to see the Classic 500 race at the Manx GP this week.

We managed to get ferry tickets to depart on Tuesday 28th from Heysham and arrive back in Liverpool Friday 31st.

Surprisingly enough, we managed to get a room in a guest house in Douglas.

Heysham is 218 miles from my house in Aylesbury. My 1999 XJ600 is old and tired (a bit like me) but managed the trip just about . I got around 58 MPG whilst cruising at a constant 75 mph on the motorway.

During the trip, while riding like a loon across the mountain section, the engine developed an unhealthy rattle.



I have nursed it back (running at around 55 mph during the 160 mile run from Liverpool) and will have to investigate what I have done.

All in all a great trip and one full of happy memories after meeting lots of really nice folk.

Sounds like a great trip . (Well, the run home sounds a bit 'pedestrian' . Hope the D6 survives the experience. What sort of unhealthy rattle has it got ?)

It's a top end, timing chain type of rattle.

The clutch sounds noisy too (until you pull in the lever).

No real loss of power, I just did not want to stress her any more than I already have!

Do a search for it here (they all do that) probably not as bad as you think.

Is it worth strippng and replacing the clutch basket?

The weather was great during the day but the rain was very heavy at night.
The police stopped me and asked me to wait until the storm was over.
I declined and they let me go on my way.
There was a bow wave from the front wheel!

It was the worst rain I have ever (in 30 years of riding) had the misfortune to ride in.
