Are stick on tank protectors worth putting onto the bike. There is not a mark on my tank at the moment and I was thinking of sticking on a protector. I'm a bit worried that when it is on it will ruin the appearance of the bike somewhat. If I don't like it, will it come off without wrecking the paintwork? Any thoughts on the matter appreciated.

You can have them off easily enough with a bit of heat and patience... gotta be worth fitting one, specially if you ride with your nads on the tank like me.

My jacket zip was marking the tank so a protector was fitted. Last bike had one too. I'd always fit one.

Its me that needs the protection !!!

Welshy A bit more expensive but have you thought about a Baglux tank cover? Will cover the whole tank and protect it from any knocks or scratches. You do see them from time to time on e-bay for around £40. I think new they cost around £85 Paul

I've thought about a tank cover but it seems a shame to cover up the tank when it is one of the largest painted areas on the bike and in very good condition. I know the tank cover would keep it this way but it doesn't seem right to hide it away in order to protect it.

beeblemaster - It's taken my forever and a day to change my name from Phil to welshy so I'm definitely keeping it. I think you might just be a tad envious that I have a name that intuitively indicates that I have character and history (even if I can't speak the b....y language. BTW nice suggestion about the tank covers. Has anyone else in here ever tried using them. Do they look ok or do they look like you have a big tax disk holder on your tank. Cheers, "Charasmatic welshy"

Phil,
If Reaper says he's got one on his Fazer and Greeny on his SV... you'd never tell.
I was gonna get one for mine, but like so many things never got round to it. I've got one of those 'spiney' type tank protectors (whatever they're called) but i don't like em.

Thanks for the tip. I think I will take a look around the web and see if I can find someone who sells them. If i find someone, I'll post the link on this thread.
Thanks for the advice, greatly appreciated. Phil

Welshy... keep the handle, its cool. Dave
As for riding with your nads on the tank - s'pose could be fun at around 4000rpm until they go numb.

You can also buy bike specific kits of self adhesive clear film that covers the bits that get wear and tear such as the zip area and where the knees grip the tank. Can hardly tell it is on there as it is totally transparent
A tad on the pricey side though
Dave ;D

Thanks Chirodave, I'll stick with it. I emailed "Tankslapper" directly and asked them where I can get one for my XJ600S. They told me they had never heard of that model. I then told them it was a SECA II and got the following response which didn't really help.
That we have - thanks for clearing that up, but it is out of production here. If I catch one at the dealer perhaps in for service or in the used line I can do it, but the chances are not good. I can keep and eye out for one and let you know if we have any luck.
Dave are the covers that you referred to any good and where do I get hold of them. Is there a specific name for them so I can do a Google search.
Cheers

Hi Welshy
I spoke to a couple of companies that were doing it at the NEC but can't remember their names off hand.
Will have a look at home to see if I have a leaflet or anything.
They have patterns in a CAD system for each bike and cut out each kit using a vinyl cutter. IIRC the tank and knee sections were abiut £35 for the Fazer
Dave ;D

Thanks Dave, just what I was looking for. I think I am going to have to wait a little while before I get it though. I have to fork out for oil, clutch and other bits so my bike becomes rideable again before I can indulge in the extras. Ah well.....
Thanks again, Phil
