If your 900 is heavy to ride won't filter with confidence and develops a slight speed weave with a top box. Chances are the steering bearings need grease or replacing.
Mine had taper rollers fitted about 15000 - surely still fit for anything. But the bike has recently developed that weave when carrying Givi cases. Today I greased the head bearings. The races were not dry but I greased them anyway. Its driving like a new bike. Corners feel so much better that damp roads feel like dry roads compared to before doing the job. It's all together more sure footed and easy to place on the road. If in doubt about the handling its well worth the faff and hassle of opening up the headstock. Don't wait for the steering to get knotchy. Grease them anyway.

That's just how my new bike ( 53 plate 31k) feels. I thought it was the fact that the front tyre is near its limit. Will try that thanks

The back end bearings also need to be ok, but on mine the steering bearings have the biggest effect.
A cheap test is to slacken the steering bearing preload - just enough to cause a slight slackness. Take if for a ride, avoid potholes and ignore the clunks. If the steering is no better its not the steering. In my case it was loads better so I regreased it and reset the spindle nuts.
