I know this isn't going to be of interest to many YDC folks, bacuase you'd need to be a) into offroad or supermoto and b) within reasonable distance of Zummerzet. But I'd still like to flag up some excellent service I had today from these people.
You may know that Talon make spoked wheels for offroaders and supermotos. I bought a set of their supermoto wheels on eBAy a couple of months ago for the DRZ trailie that I keep in France, so I can do a bit of road hooning now and again without the front end feeling like it's going to wash out all the time, which it does on knobblies (which also wear out in no time on tarmac).
Anyway, although the wheels looked in good nick when I picked them up, when I looked at them closely I realised that the seals were a bit damaged. Also, although the previous owner told me I could use the spacers off the Suzuki's wheels, in fact the diameters didn't.
So, rather than just order new seals and spacers off their website, I rang Talon to see if it would be possible to take the wheels along for someone to have a look and make sure I got the right bits. "No problem," they said, "There's always someone here who can help."
So this afternoon I rolled up at their factory in Yeovil, and was sent up to the wheel department, where no less than three helpful guys checked them over and spotted that "someone" had modified the spacer tubes between the bearings. They then proceeded to rebuild them with new spacers, bearings and seals while I waited, all properly assembled on their press with the right tools.
They even offered to re-use some of the old bearings which were still serviceable, but for the sake of a few quid extra I decided to have new throughout. I've kept the old ones "just in case", though.
And the cost of all this personal attention? They just charged me for the hub kits - £30 front, £38 rear (+VAT, of course). Even threw in a new set of sprocket bolts as the old ones were a bit manky. I shudder to think how much it would have been if we were talking Yamaha parts!
All-in-all, I can't recomend them highly enough, if you ever need their services.
