Crashing after a 2000 mile tour

Its nice reading your tales, so a bit about mine as I will be doing the next few on the Diversion.

We like touring Europe. Its mostly what I own a bike for. Im the event co-ordinator for the BM riders club and am always looking out for interesting ride reports

I normally tour on a BMW but had a freak crash the day after we got back home after 2000 safe miles in the Pyrenees last year.

This crash was 30MPH. A fox of all things jumped into the front wheel in daylight and down we went. RT was scrapped by insurer and I collected 3 broken ribs.


Bought a brand new tenere a week later but couldnt ride for 2 months, hated that bike, bought a BMW GS didn't like it as much as RT so I am doing at least 3 tours on the Diversion in 2012 as it suits me well.

That was certainly a bit of rotten luck! At least it happened after the tour

Never saw the fox again, it hit the massive plastic mudguard and steered me straight onto that grass on a quiet country lane near devils bridge. The gouge in the grass is where the right cylinder first scored a touch-down. I fought that RT for 20 yards like a man fighting a Lion but on that grass strip we were doomed.

Funny thing is, I never had a fox attack my bike before so it was rotten luck that it happened on a wet road with a lawn down the cente of it
