It's over priced by at least £4000 considering it's had 6 owners and covered 19,000 miles The camera probably makes it look far better than reality. I had a wasted journey to Norfolk to see a genuine 15,000 mile diversion 900 which looked mint in the pictures but was somewhat disappointing in 'the flesh'

Hi , that bike looks ace, I remember seeing one in the flesh at " Miles " in Hull way back in the seventies and wether it is overpriced or not the buyer pays whatever he thinks is just .

WTF ? Clive's not far off with his estimate. Martin, has that veggie diet finally stripped you of all sense? You've dropped a fair few notches on your 'how to be a tightwad' course I'm afraid. Report - must try harder.

It's an era I missed out on completely, and bikes like this really don't get me excited at all.
So sorry, Martin, but I won't be buying it for you.
Everyone to their own taste, I suppose.

Dunno if you would be interested in a smaller capacity version - just took my Divvy for its MOT and the bike shop has a 650 Katanga of similar appearance in the showroom which looks very clean and comes with the benefit of shaft drive. He is asking £2k but I guess he would haggle. Didn't get any details of mileage or previous owners but if you are interested its at Sapphire Motorcycles at Staveley near Kendal - tel 01539 821401

The 650 is very small, very light, lovely in it's own way, shaft a bonus. But a good one is only worth a little North of a grand. Most are worth less, in my spendthrift opinion [1]. Yeah you're right Martin. The 650 Katana was very 'cooking'. During the 80's I ran a 550 Katana. Good bike for that era, and very gaudy. Even the rear caliper was bright red. Only gave about 53bhp IRC but it appeared at the time, very exotic, and I thought it was the mutts nuts.

£2000 for an old 650 Kat.... ....some people are crazy Agreed. I walked away at £750 for the one I looked at, which wasn't in bad nick. I had a 4000 mile 1986 GS650GT in 1988, I only paid £1650 then I had a brand new CB650 in 1980 for £1250 .

I paid just under £2000 for my GS1000E brand new in 1979 or 1980 (can't remember which), raced it for 2 years and sold it for £1200. So? What would it fetch now? Price paid then is a bit irrelevant IMHO. I paid less than £500 brand new for my Triumph Tiger 650 in 1972 - should I expect to buy one now in good nick for less than that? A bike is worth what the market will stand, and once they stop making them, if its a classic and desirable, then the price will keep going up as fewer of them survive. All depends how badly you want one - I paid over the odds for my Divvy, but was happy with the deal because it was exactly what I wanted, with all the bits already on it, and it was local so I could go and kick the tyres. I know there are still quite a few available, but there is also quite a variety of quality too. I have to say I probably wouldn't be interested in a Katanga anyway, but if it was my dish of tea and a good one came up locally then I would probably pay over the odds for it.

- should I expect to buy one now in good nick for less than that? Exactly - of course not. I like older machines, particularly those which either set the World alight in their day, or those with a bit of character. You get to have some fun fettling them, riding them, then selling-on with little loss. Luvverly .
