For a while now, I noticed that the cluth started failing at
maximum torque. The last weeks the performance was
deteriorating more and more
So finally the moment was there to change the clutch plates .
After ordering and receiving the plates and springs, I start with soaking the friction plates in motoroil for 24 hours.
This gives me an extra evening to stude the manual
The next day I start already directly by NOT following the manual ;D
It's NOT necessary to drain the oil of the engine if you put the motorcycle on his
sidestand or "jiffy"
Just to be shure I place the reservoir, in which the plates are soaking, underneath the engine.
And indeed, not a drop drips out
Note that the bolts can varry in length , so I keep them in order.
A trick is to place them in the following order.
Once all the bolts are removed the panel will probable keep stuck.
Gently tap around to loosen it without damaging the gasket.
I was prepared for I brooken gasket and had A now one ready but didn't need to change it .
Watch out, there are two dowels.
One mostly sticks to the panelwhile the other stays on the engine.
Next step : loosen the spring bolts in a criss-cross patern
six springs
preassure plate
When you remove the clutch friction - and plain plates, make it a habbit
to keep them in order
In this case I renew the clutch-friction plates so it isn't realy necessary, but in cas of inspection for wear,
they have to be put back in the same order
The plain plates need seldom replacement but
I check them annyway.
Here I use the foot of the drilling machine.
A piece of glass can also be used to check if they arn't bend
(e.g. bathroom mirror)
Now the new plates can be placed.
There are 8 clutch friction plates and 7 plain plates in a diversion 900.
From here on it gets dirty (in oil dripping plates) so no pictures of reassambly ;D
The preasure plate can only be placed back in one way.
There are markings on it .( dots)
I check the springs for wear and replace them annyway
Finnal inspection of the carter for dirt.
The clutch spring bolts only need 8nm .(little morethen hand tied)
and the panel bolts 12 nm(thats surprisingly little)
