I recently fitted HH sintered pads to my XJ900 Diversion, made by EBC.
What a difference, the braking is much sharper now and the feel is very progressive, although grab the lever hard and the bike really stops !!!. I know HH have the highest friction rating, so might wear out quicker and perhaps wear out the disc quicker ? but IMHO the added braking performance is well worth it. A great mod to a heavy bike like the 900, it brakes like a sports bike (well, almost
This is also a very good modification to the XJ 600, especially the older models with only a single front disc. This can make a huge difference, some members have felt the braking performance is double what it was.
The difference is the HH bit, not the fact they are sintered. FF or GG are lower friction so will not increase the braking by so much. HH are the highest friction you can get (I believe)
Two warnings !
I would advise that you do not fit HH pads to the rear, this will make the rear wheel far more prone to locking up under hard braking. I have standard grade EBC pads on the rear of my Diversion.
Get used to the new brakes gradually as it is almost like adding a servo. Go out for a few practice runs and get used to them, otherwise you may overbrake and lose control until you get the hang of the increased braking effect.
The part number for the EBC sintered HH pads for the front is
92 to 97 (single disc) XJ 600 Diversion S/N - 515 078
98 on (twin disc) Diversion S/N - 515 108
95 on XJ 900 Diversion 515 078 (same as older 600)
They cost £19 per pair (04/2003) and you will need two pairs for the twin disc XJ600 and the XJ 900
For the rear I would recommenend Kevlar pads. They are not as 'grippy' as the HH sintered so will prevent the possibility of locking up the rear wheel too easily, although you can fit HH if you want to and have HH on the front too. NOTE There is a safety warning from the suppliers to not fit HH to the rear if you fit normal pads to the front as this can imbalance the braking.
For the rear EBC Kevlar pad part numbers are
92 to 97 (single disc) and 98 on (twin disc) Diversion S/N 514 993
95 on XJ 900 Diversion 514 973
cost for Kevlar rears is £15 per pair (04/2003)
