Can any one recommend a cleaning agent to get rust spots of stainless steel down pipes.
It's not the spreading type of rust just spots about1/8" across on the down pipes.
Any thoughts.

TBH, any of the slightly abrasive metal polishes will do. Autosol is favourite for many - or T-Cut is pretty effective.

I don't know, what with all these posts about rusty spots on pipes and brown rings on discs, I think we need some advice from Derefood.

Bar Keeper's Friend.
Available for £1.99 a bottle at Aldi recently, so they may still have some in stock
Mix it to a paste about the consistency of non-drip gloss paint, smooth a thin layer over the area to be cleaned, leave for 10 min, then rub with scotchbrite (the green abrasive stuff on the back of a washing up sponge)
Works very quickly on rust spots, may take a few applications for heat discolouration.
It's bringing up the downpipes on the Doodlebug to a lovely shine.
You will probably want to give them a quick polish with a metal polish to get a good shine afterwards

My stainless downpipes are totally tarnished. They go off so fast I gave up polishing them ages ago.

By far the simplest and best remedy is to use fine wire wool dipped in Cola followed by solvol autosol works every time.

I recently used Cillit Bang to clean the black winter grime off the front of the engine. It's acid so safe(ish) on aluminium - unlike caustic cleaners.
Guess what(?) - it also took the tarnish off the downpipes. :-)
Sadly after about 500miles they are just as discoloured as ever
