The screws that secure the fairing that are located nearest to the rider were loose. They would not tighten. After eventually removing them, by drilling the heads off, after having to hold the threaded part with pliers. I replaced them with like for like.
These being wellnuts or rawl nuts, depending on which name you prefer. basically these are rubber top hat shaped mouldings, with a brass thread moulded in to the non top hat end. These work by swelling out when the screw is tightened.
My question is: Are these the correct original parts, or has someone fitted them at some past point in time. I'm not totally convinced that these are correct. The Haynes manual is of no use!

They sound like the originals to me.

Thank you, I shall stop fretting now about the thought of something fretting on the bike. LOL

If you search "well nuts" and set it for 6 months you should find some suggested suppliers of these things. BTW I have replaced most of my fairing screws with stainless. None have shaken loose and they dont seem to pick up into the brass like the Motrax alloy screen screws.

Too late for me, but if sourced from a non bike shop they're cheap.

still might bin them and put some grommets in the mounting brackets, the rattling noise has been replaced by a higher pitched buzz!

The grommets/wellnuts are probably fine. You need to put padding between the plastic panels. Bits of anti slip rubber matting are a good start, but dont over-tighten the screws.
Mine buzzes but the new cans drown it out. ;D
Anyway, helmet wind noise above 40mph is loud enough to cause permanent damage so I almost never ride without ear plugs.

I always wear ear plugs, but this sizzling noise is irritating.
Where exactly should this padding be placed?

Put them under the fasteners and look for areas where the paint has rubbed.
