Having problems starting my Diversion, probally a wiring issue... In all seriousness its a donor engine for a go-kart but have got starting issues, engine fired up fine as normal (first time in 3 years) so we started on stripping out the loom and removing everything we dont need (lights etc...) with important wires being flagged and kept (minus one) we lost one of the wires from the start switch. One was the iginition live, the other we dont know. I traced the wires from starter solenoid and there is a black/grey wire which no longer goes anywhere hit an iginition live to that and starter spins but dont sound like its engaged (grinding clicking noise) there is also a blue/white wire which leads to starter motor, hitting a live to that does get a normal starting response but engine never starts (nothing going to ignition coils). We have shorted all kill switches etc... so thats no issue and shorted the 2 main wires from ignition switch. Does anyone have a starting circuit for the diversion 900 or any idea what we've missed?

The electronics wont be too happy at shorting out the ignition wires. A wiring diagram might help. Ripped-off Yamaha service manuals as a pdf file on CD are about £5 on ebay. Can we have pix of the kart. :-)

I've got a scan of yamaha manual trouble is the wiring diagrams are bad quality, will have to hunt out a haynes manual. The kart is a scratch build, we got a lot of the front end done... (for some reason pic uploaded upside down lol) all the pics are on i776.photobucket.com/albums/yy41/kart_2009/

The electronics wont be too happy at shorting out the ignition wires. Shorted as in connected, e.g. exactly the same thing the switch does

I thought you meant shorting the LT down to earth like they used to do with moped ignitions. BTW have you seen the Rorty website.

no? whats the addy? found out the blue/white should be grounded not live but still wont start, only had a quick play may have just been not enough petrol left in the carbs now. on another point, removing the in gear kill switch is painful when you forget to check
