I'm getting a fair bit of buffetting from the standard screen. I've found a place that will supply taller screens up to 280mm higher. Does anyone have experience with taller screens to help me determine the height required? I'm 6ft tall & will be fitting 2" handlebar risers which will give a more upright riding position.

Have fitted the ROX 2 inch risers, AND, just (last week) fitted an eagle screens touring screen. I opted for the screen that is 200mm taller than std. I'm 5 foot 8, and talked to many folk who have screens on their bikes: AKA Bimmer RT riders and Zuki V Strom riders, as well as peeps on here. Seems that if the top edge of the screen is approx level with your nose you're on the money. In my case, the taller screen looks butt ugly, as it,s a little out of proportion size wise (very tall, not very wide), BUT IT WORKS. Can ride with visor open at speed, the wind goes over my helmet now. Still cop minor turbulence around the sides of the helmet, but considerably less than before. Will post up a pic over the weekend. Greg.

Pics as promised....... This screen is 200mm taller than std. At approx 5 foot 8 inches, the air now flows over my open visor, but I still experience slight turbulence on the sides of my helmet from dirty air coming around the sides of the screen. It's much better than the OEM screen. I can listen to music on my Autocom at a much lower volume now. I'm not that keen on how the bike looks now, and in hindsight should probably have opted for a clear (untinted) screen, but the bike is much less tiring to ride over long distances now. Cheers Greg.

Thanks mate, I'm getting some risers from the same place so I'll just measure the height of my snout
May be down the 'Gong in a month or so - ok to drop you a line & we may have a beer?

Where did you get the mirrors, like the elongated look.

I like that the Eagle has NOT got a top flip. What do pillions think of it? With my, admittedly shorter MRA, in slight side winds I get turbulence that pushes me one way and her the other, then it whacks us back again - Annoying.
Bernard has posted some good stuff on screens including "P" section draught excluder strip (from B&Q) around the outside screen edge to reduce turbulence. He's using a Skidmarx tall screen. IIRC, he's had problems with wind pressure popping the screen screws.
I'm using an MRA with variable spoiler. Its fairly protective but noisy so not recommended. I'm still working on improvements, though might give up and go for a plain tall screen. My concern with Skidmarx is the flipped top edge which I believe (if working anything like the MRA) will undo the benefits of its tallness.

Where did you get the mirrors, like the elongated look. They were on the bike as purchased. They are however Yammie mirrors. They have the "tuning fork" symbols stamped on them. Come to think of it, think I've seen them on fleabay. If adjusted well they almost eliminate blind spots. CD.....The tallest screen that Eagle make has a flip at the top edge. Looks ridiculous IMHO. I figured from all the comments you have posted on this subject that flips are useless, and actually create more turbulence. SWMBO has not been aboard since the new screen was fitted. Let you know her opinions shortly. Oh, and BTW, fitted new well nuts with the screen. Hoping this will prevent the screen popping off at speed. Despite it's size and shape it vibrates a lot less than the OEM screen. Hope it stays that way. Greg.

I'm sure screen manufacturers make flips because other makers also make flips. I'm sure if anyone actually wind tunnel (or even rider) tested them they'd scrap the idea.
Lets hope the Eagle gets a seal of approval. The MRA shakes quite a bit and as the front tyre wears, gets into a sort resonanant wobble as the wheel vibes and screen vibes interfere with each other.

Having just read through this thread and with my experience it seems difficult to get the right screen to suit personal preferences, when I first got my Diversion 900 it just had the standard screen, which gave good handling, but just gave you such a blast on the helmet when at Motorways speeds, so I purchased a skidmarx tall flip screen which was good for keeping the blast off your helmet but I didn’t like the look, it was a pain to keep it from hitting the mirror stems at full lock and it made handling feel a bit top heavy plus been only 5” 6” I found the top of the screen right on my line of vision. Currently I have the genuine Yamaha touring screen fitted which looks good, handles good, clears the mirrors OK but still gives you a blast on the helmet at speed (this is probably made worse due to having handle bar risers fitted and hence lower my head position) but isn’t as bad as the original OEM screen, I have thought about fitting an adjustable spoiler but they ain’t cheap I don’t want to spend anymore money without been sure that it will work.
If only you could get an electric type adjustable screen to fit
Regards
Geoff

I have an MRA screen with adjustable spoiler and frankly its rubbish. The spoiler was either doing nothing or working like a barn door and making as much turbulence. The screen also has a curved up back edge which adds enough turbulence on its own.
I cut 2" off the screen top losing about half of the flip and put longet front legs on the spoiler. This is better but still very noisy and car turbulence causes nasty buffeting.
I picked up a standard screen and TBH its not much noisier than the MRA, but anyone taller than 5' 8" would doubtless find the standard screen is the worst.
While swapping over the screens an idea hit me about the airflow issue. Instead of trying to blank it out whiy not smooth the flow. I bungied the MRA screen upside down onto the standard screen. It looked carp but gave a nice convex towards the rider.
With the straps I could adjust the screen angle and found that when I could look down the screen along the line of the front face - no noise and no buffeting. Tilt it up 1" or do and it was noisy. Down 1" and the wind pressure went up. Oddly enough the screen was not very tall and the top edge very rounded yet it worked well.
So I now need the bottom half another MRA screen to fasten to my existing MRA with adjustable brackets. But at nearly £100 a pop that's not going to happen. Maybe its time to knock up a fibreglass mould.

Seems this screen is slightly more tubulent at 70 to 90 kph for a passenger, but considerably less turbulent above 90, and up to 130 kph. Not tested above 130. No more complaints at speed now. Conversation on the Autocom now much easier. Had to take a tiny amount off the screen edge as it was just touching the fairing and vibrating at speed. Problem solved. Still can't get used to the look (UGLY), but defo easier to ride (less fatigue) over longer distances. Greg.

You could try Bernards's draught excluder idea...
He stuck a length of P section silicone draught excluder along the screen edge and says it reduced the buffeting. The stuff is cheap enough to give it a go.

And guess what, several months later the draught excluder is still all there, and works just aswell as the day I fitted it.....
I'm just short of 5' 11" and have bar risers, so favour a more sat up riding position. I can sit at 90mph with my visor up and be comfortable, as long as there isn't a large vehicle in front to upset the slipstream.
Also with my modular helmet in the up position it's possible to ride at up to 40mph around town with the modular front bit in the up position.
My screen is a skidmarx super flip by the way, and riding my divvy now is as comfortable as my BMW K100RT was all those years ago...
I've written about it in one of the threads on screens, in the mods D9 section.
