My right hand one is leaking very badly so I bought a new one. I'm just about to atempt to fit it. Have people managed to do this with out removing the fairing and downpipes?

Well John it's funny you should ask, as I've just been assisting some old fella with this very issue. What you need, to access the upper-most of the two little allen-key bolts which secure the lower end of the pipe to the engine, next to the oil filter, is a 5mm allen key - sawn off so it's short enough to squeeze-in past the engine mounting point. Once you have this, turn the allen key around & notice it's a posh ball-end one, then just use that end to reach through past the frame & downpipes, give it a little wiggle & it'll gain sufficient purchase to undo the bolt. Undo it's brother, then the top 14mm bolt atop the oil cooler, & the little brace half-way down the pipes, & you're away . As Mr Haynes would say - reassembly is a reversal of the above. Don't forget the little rubber seal in the bottom connection, or the copper washer on the top connection. If you can't manage to seat that tricky bolt properly & you are fearful of cross-threading it - go & make a brew whilst someone else does it . Job done, all without removing fairing or any exhaust down-pipes .
