I have Goldfren sintered on the front accepting they will wear the disc faster, but the packet blurb said they would last 3x as long as standard pads. On that basis they would still be cheaper overall even though the actual discs would not do so many miles. So far they have 10000 miles and the discs are showing no signs of excess wear.
I will be fiting sintered on the back though after 50K that disc is looking ropey, so when the existing rear pads expire, it will be new pads and discs together.
I find the biggest benefit is not so much the ultimate stopping power as the controllability. Less muscle force = more accuracy and its easier to back off if the wheel feels like its locking
