From: rowlf Sent: 03/04/2003 The British Standards Institute produced a, er, standard, i.e. 'BS au159/f' covering repairs to motor vehicle tyres. The standard limits the type and the amount of damage that should be repaired in tyres. The limits for puncture repairs are 'J' rating (up to 100kph) or (60mph) - 2 repairs up to 6mm (after tyre preparation) so no roadside repairs ! but the repair patches must not overlap. Above 'J' rating up to 'V' rating (100-240kph) or (60mph to150mph) - 1 repair up to 6 mm (after tyre preparation) Over 'V' - no repair ! (so pity the poor sod on an R1 or similar who gets a puncture in his big fat expensive rear tyre in the first few hundred miles) ----------------- Basically the British Standard permit one repair per tyre in bikes like a Divvy but no repairs in big sports bikes which mostly use ZR radials. Although this is not actuallty a legal requirement, because the standard exists if you have more repairs in your tyre it is possible your insurance company would refuse to cover you or would not pay out in the case of an accident if they could in any way blame the accident on the tyres.
