Can anyone tell me please if I unscrew the plastic screws from my screen is there a chance that the nuts or what have you at the back will fall off, or are they fixed in place. I have one missing and want to replace it so I just want to remove one to see what size I need.
Many thanks
Keith

They should be fixed in place as they are rubber wellnuts. You may find that the wellnuts will turn with the screw... this is a pain in the a**e it may be possible to reach up the fairing to get at some, just hope they all turn for you.
Peter.

Keith,
Before you go unscrewing and removing, the well nuts* and screws are a standard size (or there is lttle choice at least). Just go into any good bike shop and ask for a screen screw and well nut. Motrax do copies about £8 for 8 (screws and well nuts), Yamaha ones work out about £3 for 1 well nut and screw.

* - You could haven problems getting these out and back in again as when you tighten the screw, the rubber compresses and fattens to form a seal (or not and the well nut rotates with the screw and you can not get the thing out as Peter said).

A little tip I learnt the hard way
If you want to remove the rubber well nuts; don't try and pull them out through the hole. Give them a push in and catch them out the bottom.
Occasionally the well nuts need replacing but in my experience a new screw normally does the trick.
Good luck

I took my screen off by unscrewing them screws, polished it up (both sides)
with normal car polish and replaced. No problems what so ever.
Did you know, clean and polished fairins are more aerodynamic than rained
and dried ones? Air flows over it better making it wind drag less... so my
mate tells me, I see his point but do question the actual difference it
would make... thought I would help you all sleep tonight ya see

Halfords sell the Motrax bolts and wellnuts, ( as well as a few other Motrax bits), I think there are 8 on the card but I didn't notice much they were. They are metal bolts in a limited range of colours.
I have mentioned this before but I think it is worth repeating, I would use the plastic bolts rather than the metal ones, last year I dropped the bike on wet grass, (fortuneately it was at very low speed and the ground was soft) the screen popped off sheering all th eheads off the plastic bolts. I reckon if they had been metal the screen would have shattered.

Saxon,
Those Motrax screws heads break off real easy (before the screen). I tested it out once (just to know you understand ).

Do you mean the metal ones?

Does anybody know the size of the thread. is it 5 or 6 mm? It may be possible to obtain these things cheaper through the trade.£1 ea seems expensive for a plastic nut an bolt.

When I tried the Motrax ones I found the rubber was too hard and they didn't compress, they just turned round in the hole when I turned the screw. I had to go and buy the rediculously expensive Yamaha ones. Next time I'm going to see if you can get small rawlplug expanding plugs of the size needed.
