thinking of upgrading my rear light on my Gs and my divvie 900 to the LED type, but being tight, i would rather not pay £50-£60 for something ready made, have seen these for sale in Maplin www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=47376&C=Maplin&U=SearchTop&T=LEDS&doy=23m9they can be cut into 100mm strips, so was thinking of two strips being the back light and two strips the brake light, leaving the origonal filament in place

have now fitted it and its as good as a bought one, very bright, with the added benifit as a backup to the origonal bulb
i have now thought of fitting 3 of the 400mm strips behined the red reflector on my givi topbox, they are thin enough to slide behined, 1 for the running lights and 2 as the brake light, just need to source a 3 pin quick disconnect plug and 3 sockets (one for each bike), should look awsome when fitted ;D

quite right, thats where i found them, why re invent the wheel ;D
have had the divvie 9 apart and it will easly work on that model, in fact it should work better as the rear light is bigger, you would have to join the wires at the back, but its not that hard to do, ive not done it though, as ive temporary tried the leds in the red part of the top box, only the one strip as i now have another 2 on order, but it will look awsome and to do the rear light as well will be overkill, on the Gs im thinking once the top box is converted, of removing the origonal bulb, as it sure is bright

I tried to make an LED setup for the old MZ, but I was using vero board and red LEDs. I never got it done - far more fiddly than expected. Those light strips would have been ideal. I wonder if they do them in red - dont want a pink stop lamp Orange would be cool for the indicators. The sharp on off of LEDs is perfect for catching other driver's attention. The flasher unit would probably need upgrading but nice stuff.

Flasher unit won't need changing, you "just" have to add a resistor. Might be one for each indicator.

I know the power is minimal but a resistor sort of spoils the point of using low power LEDs. I made up and LED indicator for the MZ. It uses about 15 super bright orange LEDS and is certainly very visible, but so much hassle to make I never got around to doing any more.

If a resistor is not added the flash rate is way too fast. Definitely an MOT failure.
