I seem to have the same problem every time I adjust my chain.
I get the slack / tension on the chain just right, but then when I tighten up the axle nut it tightens up the chain to make it too tight. I end up adjusting it slacker and hoping it tightens up the correct amount when I am doing the axle nut up
I gather I must be doing something wrong - any suggestions please?
Thanks in advance
Dave ;D

Dave,
Are you leaving the axle nut too loose while you're adjusting the chain?
You need to make sure the axle nut is just biting while you adjust the chain and therefore there will be no (or very minimal) movement when you tighten it.

Thanks Mate, that may be the answer, I have been slackening it right off.
Will have another go later.

Hi Dave
Had the same problem for the last 30 years+
I just allow for the extra tightness when doing the chain, nothing scientific. You should only need to tighten every 4000 or so if your riding style is smooth, when it needs doing often its time to renew the chain and sprockets (DID X ring is my preferred choice)

Are you slackening the two bolts on the (I think it is called) tension arm (the metal bar with holes in that goes to the brake caliper*), but as Beebs says, don't slacken the axle nut off too much.

Dave,
After you've tightened everything up, always recheck tension with someone sitting on the bike to make sure it's not too tight.
I've had problems in the past with dealers not doing this check and handing the bike back to me with the chain doing a good impression of a bowstring when I sat on it. I don't know exactly what the damage would be if you rode far with it like this, but it's obviously going to wear things out quicker.
On the Fazer you may be able to do this check without an assistant as there isn't a can in the way.
