Hi all,
I've just joined the group and put a 'hello' on the general board.
I've had my 600S for a few months and the last month I'm getting a small pool of oil on the ground beneath the gearbox sprocket area when the bike has been parked up on the sidestand after a longish run. At first I thought I'd just overoiled the chain but it has continued to appear.
Is there an oil seal behind the gearbox sprocket? I've looked in the Haynes book of words and pictures and can't see one. If there is a seal is it an easy one to change?
My other thought was that the crankcase breather(s) could be blocked. Looking at the pipes it doesn't look like they've been off for years (the bikes a '98 model with 35,000 miles).
Any ideas anyone before I lay into it?
Cheers Cookie

There is an oil seal. I'm afraid you may have to split the crank if the bearings are knackerd too, but someone who knows for sure will be along soon.

Before you start overhauling the gearbox, check if the (what's the proper name for it) "hose-between-crankcase-and-airbox" isn't blocked (white stuff in it)

yey, cookie - you seem to be suffering from the ole cack in the breather hose ailment.whip the tubes off and blow em through. Catch all the scabrous muck that comes out, job done.Do it once a month and make sure you cane the tits off the bike on a regular basis to get rid of condensate from the crankcase.

Thanks guys,
I'll whip the hose off and blow it out. I'll take the tank off and clean out all the breather bits whilst I'm at it. Fingers crossed eh?

Right - I cleaned all the pipes out and the inside of the airbox. I didn't realise there was a drain pipe from the airbox going down behind the crankcase - that's why I assumed the oil was coming from the sprocket area. Anyway, having done a couple of 30 odd mile trips this afternoon there appears to be no oil pool when parked up . Early days to say for sure but a definite improvement. Incidentally, those pipes under the airbox are a bugger to get on and off eh? (or is it just me). Anyway thanks for the suggestions Cheers, Cookie
