Hi I wonder if anyone can shed some light on a little problem of mine please?
A couple of days ago I fitted a set of Oxford heated grips, followed the instructions etc with no hitches. But when I tried to turn them on even with the engine started, the blue light flashed 5 times, which apparently means there's not enough voltage for them. They have an inbuilt system which won't let them work if the supply is less than 11.5volts, to protect the battery from going flat. This worried me a little, so I turned off my headlight (engine still running) and after a couple of minutes the grips would heat up. I can then turn my headlight back on and usually everything remains fine for the rest of the ride (usually about an hour long commute).
Since then on a couple of occasions the grips have turned off mid-ride, presumably because the battery protection feature has detected less than 11.5 volts. And also if I decide mid-ride to turn on my grips I have to turn off my lights for a few minutes, fire up the grips then turn my lights back on!!
Surely this isn't right?? And presumably it's highlighted an issue with my bikes electrics, any ideas what this might be a symptom of? Battery? Alternator? I don't know enough about vehicle electrics to make an educated guess!
Oh and there's no other accessories fitted to my bike which is a '99 Diversion 600.
And also I'm an Audio/Video Wireman so I've got the tools/skills to do a bit of re-wiring and soldering etc should it be necessary, just no knowledge of bike electrics :-(
Cheers
Carl

I have the same grips and have noticed that first thing I.E just after stating the bike sometimes they don't stay on, but after it's been running a few minutes there allvright, Never had them go off mid ride though.
Wonder if you've got a dicky battery, or a dicky alternator/regulator ?
just an idea

Maybe you could try measuring the voltage the grips are receiving - if its more than 11.5 volts and the grips aren not warming up then you know its probably grips that are at fault...
