Hi all May I tap into the collective wisdom regarding cable rating. I am about to wire an auxilliary fuse-box under the seat of my Fazer 600, for Sat Nav, Heated Grips etc. Easy enough job then. Got the bits I need - 4 Way Fuse-Box and a Relay. Question is: Do I need to use a heavier duty cable, say 28/0.3 for the Battery to Relay connection?

not got access to the Garage to size the cables, but i used 30 amp cable from the battery to a fuse holder (30amp fuse) then 30 amp to the fuse box, then a short bit of 17 amp jump to each fuse holder, then every accessory has its own lower amp cable and fuse, i then ran a 30amp cable to earth and a short piece of alluminium, which is drilled to attach the accessories and the relays earths
heated grips 5amp fuse 2 power sockets 10amp each fuse 4 holder spare with 10 amp fuse

Thanks Ian.
Done the job now. Ran from battery to relay connection 30 with an in-line fuse, picked up off of rear lights for relay con. 86, then to new fuse-box from relay con 87, and relay con 85 to battery earth.
Now have all elec pick-ups I need for accessories. Sorted.

Why would you need a relay off the battery before your new fuse box? So that the electrics only come on with your lights? If thats the case wouldn't it be better to come off your ignition under the tank?
Make sure you use some protection on the cabling and maybe fuse box by the way, pvc sheath wont like the chemicals in cleaning products. As for cabling, use a bigger rating than the fuse you are using, and base the fuse sizes on the electrical accessory being installed.
Simple really but probably overlooked by many.

I always switch a relay from a line that's live with the ignition key. Partly to save the key switch from the extra load, but more importantly so it all goes off when I take the key out. Running it with the ignition circuit can be a pain if you want to use a sat nav with the engine off.

There wouldn't be any extra load on the ignition.
