My picky MOT tester today reckoned that one or both of my Blue Spots were binding so gave me a fail. :-(
Oh well, at least I got forced to clean them internally before they sieze up.
The caliper can't be split so the pistons have to come out one by one be cleaned and replaced. I made up a clamp from two pieces of 25mm x 3mm steel strip and two 8mm x 50mm bolts.
The clamp holds one piston in place and I used a 25mm square piece of wood to stop the other two from moving out. Pressure from an airline popped out the free piston. The seals all looked ok but some pistons were a bit cruddy. Each one was cleaned and lubed with red grease and put back.
The whole job including making the holding tool took about three hours. Bleeding the brakes took a lot longer. The lever is tied back overnight. to hopefully harden up the lever.
Edit The brakes feel much the same though perhaps a weenie bit less powerful and a tad more lever travel so looks like the pads are moving more freely.
Edit Edit The brakes are firm and two finger controllable - luvly-jubly. :-) The day after a wet ride, pads seem to stick to the disc. They release as soon as the bike is moved and dont bind, but its a bit odd all the same. I suspect the pistons pull themselves back leaving pads touching the disc. This might be normal on sports bikes but as so few go out in the rain who would know.
