I am the proud owner of a XJ600n, which will not start. I have not ridden her for about 6 months. But now i am ready to ride again she wont start. Have fitted a new battery but when i turn the ignition there is just a click from the relay and all is dead. Have checked the wiring to the relay and looks OK. She is a 96 model and the relay that is clicking appears to be the Relay Assembly and possibly the heater relay as well. Any advice/help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

i had a similar problem on mine. remove the right offside panel under the seat, and you will see the relay plug. the blue or blue/white wire tends to corrode badly. give the wire a bit of a tug to see if its still in one piece. another thing could be the sidestand switch, although i dont think you would get the starter relay click if that was the case.

Is your fuel pump electric?? If so can you hear it start up for about 5 seconds when you turn the key?? If not is may be seized. Thats what has happened to mine - if this is the case you could buy a second hand pump for between £10 and £30. A new one will cost £100. New points to put into the pump will cost £22 but theres no guarantee that it is the points and not the internals of the pump. Haynes manual says to check the pump thoroughly wire it direct to the battery, if it spins great, if not its broke!

Thanks for all the replies, have checked wiring all looks OK, will check fuel pump. Would the fuel pump cause the problem of just clicking noise and no power to anything? Will have a look at weekend,Thanks.
