Hi all just became an owner of an xj600n 1998. Have got a few problems with it i just noticed that the previous owner has removed the oil cooler and replaced it with a rubber pipe. Will this have caused any damage? Been offered one from a member on here with no pipes but i only have the bottum pipes on the bike where could i source the top pipes? Another hing it has a slight misfire on cylinder 2 the exhaust is getting hot but when i check the spark plug it is wet and i am getting some white smoke out of exhaust. Could i be right in thinking a carb rebuild and sync could solve this?
Thanks alot
Daniel

removing the oil cooler, won't actually do any harm, some have removed due to the cooler leaking at the banjo bolts, that are awkward to fix, so removed.
white smoke from exhaust is usually signs of moisture in the system, that a good run out would sort out.
can't help much on the misfire though... but if pipes hot, are you sure its missing? check HT lead. a carb balance may be a good idea.
Has the bike been stood for a long period? could be water in the tank.
also see the 'smoke' thread in the 900 section here. hth

The bike has only done about 400 miles since last august and has been sitting outside all through winter and the tank is on reserve i think all the way anti clockwise? I think it is misfiring if the plug is wet also sounds abit rough a knocking sound.

would think that water in the petrol tank has to high on the to check list, before much else.that would also cause it to misfire, and also contribute to the knocking sound..
when you fill it up, don't forget to return the fuel tap to on..

Is the wetness on the plug fuel ? if it is, then you might want to check float heights and have a look at the float valve for that carb
