In the process of trying to sort out these carbs and why the bike is at 3k revs from cold with no choke. Transpired that the pilot screw on each carb was out by two turns instead of three. Would that affect it? The throttle stop screw is all the way out and there appears to be no air leaks from anywhere. Also been looking at the manual re fuel/air mixture, but cant figure out where the adjustment screw would be. Any ideas? Going to go down and try sparking it up again just now as the battery had went dead

Getting somewhere now, screwed the pilot screws pretty much all the way in and its lowered the revs. Will take a fair bit of tinkering now. Roll on 7 weeks time to get some time with it again

Just cleaned my carbs and noticed that No 1 and 4 carb pilot screws were not the same as 2 and 3. I checked my manual and it says they should be 2 out, which 2 and 3 were. So I ajusted 1 and 4 to 2 out (same as 2 and 3) but as I'm waiting for new inlet rubbers (old one were a bit cracked) before refitting and balancing them again. reason I cleaned my carbs is having trouble starting bike after months of not using, and I was never happy with the carb balance since I had some work done on my valve shimms a couple of years back.

Finish re-balancing the carbs after fitting the new inlet rubbers and the bike now runs a lot better.
The carb pilot screws were tampered with or they were adjusted to compensate for too much air intake due to poor inlet rubbers?
But delighted with the newly balanced cards and smoothly running bike.
