Ride to the Wall 2011 will kick off on sat 1st Oct. A very good cause to remember our losses in conflicts new and old. If you are interedted you will need to register yourself through the website. Althought I dont think this is available just yet (someone may prove me wrong) Price for entry last year (bearing in mind its charity) is £10 per bike If you intend to camp a 2nd night i think theres quite a bit going on in Drayton Manor last year (i didnt attend) but theres a snap wagon, band/disco and most importantly a beer tent! Camping (last year) was £10 for a tent for 2nights All being well I will be camping the night before and then joining the run the following morning. Anyone interested in meeting up either on the fri or sat name below! Loads more details can be found here www.rttw.org/

Hoping to do this with a group of bikers from work. Reasonably local so no camping.
I have been watching the website and as of last night there were no details of the 2011 RTTW. (And there still aren't, I have just checked.)
Chris, where did you get the info from?

Myself, and two friends one serving in the army, the other ex army will be going. We may well be camping. All we need now is an RAF bod serving or ex to come along and we will have covered all three services.

Went there. Did that. Didn't buy the tee-shirt but I did get an affinity band. I started at Sandbach Services southbound on the M6 an I thought there were a lot of bikes there. This photo is just a small fraction: Then it was 60 miles of motorway and dual carriageway and we parked in a field. There really were a lot of bikes there. Midlands news said up to 10000. Many were Harleys. Diversions saw I none except one red 600N near me on the M6 heading south. Some "Northern Division" members were present. With Kevlar lined socks one presumes. All branches of motorcycling were represented. Don't forget what it is all about.

Myself and Mrs M took part in Ride to the Wall from Cherwell Valley services on the M40. I was surprised at the speed, actually - I'd assumed that everyone would toodle along together but once we got going it became obvious that it was each man for himself. By the time we got to the M42 I looked in the mirror and realised that not only could I see no more bikers up ahead, I couldn't see any in the mirrors either, until the official RTTW back markers came up behind - and overtook us! They did at least signal to us that we should 'keep straight before they passed, confirming what i had already suspected from YDC runs - I am, in fact the slowest rider in the world! We caught the pack up in the M6 Toll, as I suspect the RTTW outriders knew we would, and the marshalling into the NMA was brilliant, with people parked up at the side of the road holding signs telling us even which lane to get in. We met up with my mate Dave and his wife Sarah, who I've known since we were toddlers. Dave's ex-RAF and very involved with the British Legion Riders Branch so it was very much 'his thing'. We looked at the memorial wall, which was incredibly moving, especially for Dave as one of his friends is named on it (killed in a training crash in the early 90s). One can only feel emotional looking at the long list of names of people killed in the era that we call 'since the war', and the large blank area for future names is indeed sobering. Some general observations - seeing that many bikes together (12000 I heard) is something to behold, and Harley Davidson featured very large. The whole thing was impeccably organised (military precision) and fitting tribute to the fallen. Could have done without the Status Quo tribute band though. We sneaked off just before the actual memorial service, to avoid the traffic - we figured we had paid our respects by being there. A glorious run home took less than two hours - will certainly be going next year.

Hi, just joined the forum and I was that silver 900 at Woodhall Services (don't remember seeing any other). This was my (and my wife's) first time on RTTW and what a memorable experience. It was quite an impressive sight to see so many bikes holding the middle lane of the M1 and being the first group to arrive at the aboretum we had the benefit of standing on the corner and watching all the other groups come in. Even my wife was impressed with the variety of machines taking part. And as for the weather.......
Plan to do next year's.
