Okay I don't want to sound like a complete dumbass by asking this, but I am a bit worried about my bike. I check the oil on my bike reguarly and I have noticed a milky film around the oil filler cap. I was told that this was condensation that builds up in the engine from the engine getting repeatedly hot and cold, and so long as the oil was changed often it's nothing to worry about. Anyway, I was out on the bike today and noticed the engine sounded rough. I stopped at the parents as it was on route and checked the oil level to see that I could not see any oil in the view chamber and instead just creamy foam. When I took the oil filler cap off, it was caked with thick cream foam! I topped the oil up and turned it over and obviously it sounded better, but I am concerned as to why this suddenly happened. I have been told it is probably the head gasket and should be changed asap. I was considering doing an oil and oil filter change to see if the problem persists. What would you recommend would be the best thing to do?

Yep, emulsifying oil !
Happens more at this time of year, cold/damp, and shortish runs don't help - needs at least a good 25 mile run to warm the oil through and get rid of water/crap thats in there.
Make sure the breather pipe is kept clean, do a search plenty of info on it.
It won't hurt to change the oil/filter but it will re-occur if the above conditions prevail.

Thanks for that. I will be changing the oil next weekend and I will be sure to check the breather pipes then.

Yes, it's a well recorded annoyance. No matter how much you have to suffer frequent long rides on the bike just to be sure the engine warms up sufficiently to negate the problem just know that we'll all be riding with you! ;D The technical advice is sound, BTW, it's just me they're unsure of.

I've been keeping an eye on the breather hoses a lot since and have kept them clean as well as taking long runs when I can see condensation building up in the engine. Discovered a new problem though that will have to wait until the weekend until I can get round to investigating. The Divvy has suddenly lost power and feels so sluggish. At first I thought great breather pipes may be blocked up again, but then I noticed there appeared to be no signs of condensation in the engine. Took him out on a long run and thought that would help, but it's made things worse. He's now developed what can best be described as a raspy rattling noise, not very loud, but loud enough to hear just enough when riding. Struggled get him up to 70mph! He has had a few moments where when he hits 4000rpm he just goes flat. Was thinking maybe something to do with the fuel being restricted, but with the recent noises I'm starting to think tappets or even worse cam chain or valves? Seems to be one thing after another lately.

Take the air filter out and replace it as well as taking the housing off the carbs- dismantel it!!...and make sure that is all dry and clean and I am sure you will find lots of lovely white stuff in there too - clean the breather pipe that runs down to your crank case - HTH Sean

I replaced the air filter about 1000 miles a go but will inspect it whilst stripping it down this weekend. I will check the fuel hoses to make sure none have collapsed or corroded.
I've got a feeling it may be carb related. We shall see....

Just on the original post about creamy foam oil:
I do short runs to work and back, and my oil was all mayonnaise.
After a while you start to worry if the mayo will still do what the oil is supposed to do - or is it just a layer on top.
Yesterday lunchtime I went out and did about 10 miles at a steadyish cruise along a winding A-road, followed by coming back the other way at a right good thrash, made even more fun by a hearse with about a 40 vehicle following.
At the end of it my oil was oil again. And I had had 20 minutes of fun, everyone was happy and no one got hurt.
