Not going to have a chance to look at it till tonight earliest, too busy today. I do hope this isn't a portent of what I can expect from Divvy ownership.............................

very unusual this, punctures etc, yea, ok always a possibility... break downs are few...but then again the 600 was always the better bike

The 600 was always the poor man's alternative, how many D9 riders crave a D6 ? Had the D9 8 years and never broke down once. Had a few problems but never broke down. I even rode it home after being knocked off in a rather hefty rear ender.
In 8 years I changed the rear shock, new fork stanchions, countless fork seals, new exhaust, brake line, several sets of brake pads and a couple of indicators. Plus the seat under tray after the crash.

Could this be a battery related problem?

With a bit of advice from the chap who serviced it last week (thanks Derek) and some investigation tonight, I found out what the cause was. Symptoms: the bike just died while I was approaching some traffic lights, uphill, on a road they had just put that horrible loose gritty sheyite down on. Aaaaaaargghh!!! Tried to restart it, the engine spun over but dead as a dodo. I very carefully turned the bike around and freewheeled down the hill a little way to where there was a junction and pulled safely off the road. For some reason the neutral light wasn't showing, no matter what I did, and the indicators didin't work. Lights were ok and she would spin over, just no spark. The Cure: On Derek's advice, found the fuse box (eventually!) and sure enough, the fuse for the turn signals was blown (20a fuse). This turned out to be down to dodgy wiring on the rear indicators, so I have cut the original ones out of the circuit (both pairs were wired up at the back) and renewed the connections, making them waterproof with heat shrink. Put in a new fuse, tried indicators - working, neutral light on, pressed starter and away she went like a good un. If only I had known that while I waited a piggin hour for the AA Ah well, an easy fix at least. So I can look forward to trouble free ownership now can I?
