Anyone find or know of a replacement front caliper that'll fit onto the front of an early 600s (single disc) divvy, bit like the way a thundercat rear will fit.
Had mine off last night to clean it up a bit and noticed pitting/corrosion on the pistons & if I'm going to end up replacing it, may as well try something else/better

I think this one was asked not long ago.
The answer, if I remember, was that there are other Yamaha calipers (including the famous "blue spots") that will fit the mounting lugs, but that there may not be enough clearance for the wheel and/or disc (the four-pot calipers need more space round the back, if you get my drift).
Maybe someone who's tried it can step up and give more details.

Hi, I've just bought a 1997 XJ600 4BR (single disk) which has been sitting for the last 2 years. Both the front and rear brakes were stuck to the disk. I've got them off the bike and the pistons look pretty bad.
I would also be interested to know what other calipers fit this bike (front and rear). I've read the Thundercat rear caliper fits right on - is that a specific year or will any year fit? Does anyone know if the pre diversion front caliper fits? I'm looking for a replacement that bolts straight on.
Thanks

The Tcat rear caliper fits straight on to the D6 on the same mounting bar. You will also need the Tcat hose as it has a screw fitting to attach it to the caliper. This gives really solid rear braking. I believe mine was off a 98 bike however.....

The original front caliper is fine, once paired with a 1/2" master cylinder off eg. an NTV honda. As I understand it you will struggle to fit a blue spot due to caliper/spoke interference. If you really wanted to get involved you could remove material from the back of the caliper mounting point, and space the disc out on washers. For that though, you need access to a milling machine as it has to be flat. Also, removing the disc bolts isn't likely to happen. I did remove a rear disc once, and snapped 5 screws out of 6. The 6th had to be drilled off. Fronts are liable to be the same, after years of corrosion and too much / too strong threadlock at the factory.
If you can fit a blue spot to the caliper mounts, you can also fit a TRX / TDM / etc. caliper. Maybe it's narrower?
