So you're giving up modding as a hobby eh Dave? And RoSPA? IAM observing? DIA work? You must have more time off than I do ;D Should have added plumbing too I also should have added..... I like doing f'kall and drinking red wine, sat in sunshine. I'm glad you left bike maintenance and wiring of heated grips

I am a dynamic figure, often seen scaling walls and crushing ice. I have been known to remodel train stations on my lunch breaks, making them more efficient in the area of heat retention. I translate ethnic slurs for Cuban refugees, I write award-winning operas, I manage time efficiently. Occasionally, I tread water for three days in a row. I woo women with my sensuous and godlike trombone playing, I can pilot bicycles up severe inclines with unflagging speed, and I cook Thirty-Minute Brownies in twenty minutes. I am an expert in stucco, a veteran in love, and an outlaw in Peru. Using only a hoe and a large glass of water, I once single-handedly defended a small village in the Amazon Basin from a horde of ferocious army ants. I play bluegrass cello, I was scouted by the Mets, I am the subject of numerous documentaries. When I'm bored, I build large suspension bridges in my yard. I enjoy urban hang gliding. On Wednesdays, after work, I repair electrical appliances free of charge. I am an abstract artist, a concrete analyst, and a ruthless bookie. Critics worldwide swoon over my original line of corduroy evening wear. I don't perspire. I am a private citizen, yet I receive fan mail. I have been caller number nine and have won the weekend passes. Last summer I toured New Jersey with a traveling centrifugal-force demonstration. I bat .400. My deft floral arrangements have earned me fame in international botany circles. Children trust me. I can hurl tennis rackets at small moving objects with deadly accuracy. I once read Paradise Lost, Moby Dick, and David Copperfield in one day and still had time to refurbish an entire dining room that evening. I know the exact location of every food item in the supermarket. I have performed several covert operations for the CIA. I sleep once a week; when I do sleep, I sleep in a chair. While on vacation in Canada, I successfully negotiated with a group of terrorists who had seized a small bakery. The laws of physics do not apply to me. I balance, I weave, I dodge, I frolic, and my bills are all paid. On weekends, to let off steam, I participate in full-contact origami. Years ago I discovered the meaning of life but forgot to write it down. I have made extraordinary four course meals using only a mouli and a toaster oven. I breed prizewinning clams. I have won bullfights in San Juan, cliff-diving competitions in Sri Lanka, and spelling bees at the Kremlin. I have played Hamlet, I have performed open-heart surgery, and I have spoken with Elvis. I also exaggerate And I thought I was the only one, maybe we should start a forum Actually I dont seem to have any time for hobbies at the moment, but I am restoring/modifying a FJ1200, which just needs a weekends worth of work doing to it, but in the past I have restored quite a few cars

Dave Bring your rod to JR11 Errr, sea fishing in Aviemore Anyway, bit of a funny one to answer because what I do aren't altogether hobbies, they just take up most of my 'spare' time! First off, riding the bike is definately not in the position of being the thing I do, with doing other things when I'm not doing it, if you follow my drift First of all come the family of course, especially son's activities such as shooting and swimming, though Karen is the main adult here whilst I support by getting things done at home. That includes looking after our two horses and Shetland pony plus all the work required to keep the place fit for them. Add on the general maintenance required and that takes a lot of time, but I suppose you can term it all as a 'hobby' (sort of!). More for myself I like to fish occasionally, but the main alternative would be playing (strangling) my guitar. Plus of course visiting this hallowed place ;D

I wouldn't perhaps take sea fishing tackle to Aviemore, but I would take my rope and climbing gear. Some great routes in the Cairngorms, but the walk in is soooooo long! I do a wee bit of mountain bikikg too. Looking forward to using my new bike whick came a few days ago to replace the one that was nicked recently Charlie

Neil With all of my August and September seemingly booked, I would suggest it may be worth looking at something for next Easter / Spring ? I have been out with this Guy in Looe, Cornwall before, he will charter for a day and supply all the tackle and bait. www.meerkat-boat-trips.co.uk/He told me they have a Polish fishing club that travel down from London to get to Cornwall for a 7am departure, and they are nearly all asleep on the deck by 10am Regards Dave

Well, interesting thread Dave.
Having a hobby requires one to have some spare time, or be disciplined enough to make spare time a priority.
Frequent travel with work, aged parent and in laws, and grandchildren (2 more on the way) mean life can be a tad hectic. However, I've been researching my family roots. So time taken to research, various means of contact, travel and time spent getting to know each other.....you get the picture. And because I don't use my ride as a commuter, I would consider riding whenever I can throw a leg over very pleasurable. Also like to read anything to do with military history, especially Australia's involvement in WW1.

My (recently re-explored) hobby is singing (no raining jokes please). I haven't found/made time to practice for a couple of years apart from round the house. Setting aside serious practice time now though and hoping to take it further this time (have sung at friend's wedding and a christening).
On the subject of Neil's time off - I think only Santa has a couple of days more off per year!!!!!
