Just wondered what people here do as hobbies apart from biking ?
I am considering revisiting fresh water fishing in the future, similar to biking in terms of stress relief but slightly more peaceful. I used to fish a lot on the Thames as a teenager, but have only done the odd sea fishing trip when on holiday in Cornwall for the last 20 years or so.
What do you do when not working or biking ?
Dave

I like cooking, mainly because I like eating and my other half can only make cheesy pasta. And not even proper Macaroni its the boxed stuff that tastes yuck!

Haven't done any IAM Observing since I started as an ADIFishing is a hobby that I can do with the family, Emily wants to take it up, and Julie will be quite happy to sit and read a book. No one gets more time off than you [1], apart from maybe Gordy Regards Dave [1] Trouble is you spend most of it in a haze of red wine vapour ;D

Don't have time even to enjoy the one hobby at the mo' . But time & money permitting, I'd like to resume an interest in model rocket flying ('cos I like speed & explosive forces) or would quite like to have a go at a shooting sport, maybe clay ( 'cos I like speed & explosive forces). .......... I like karting too, & paint ball. Maybe we should arrange a social event around such pursuits ?

Good insurance deals for ADI's (he says having previously tried to be discreet) Forgot the Blood running too, and the charideeee work. You after an OBE eh mate? Fishing won't help the cause, besides the fact your daughters might put you to shame Your time management is most admirable...... Respect. Leave the plumbing jobs a little longer and you'll be able to fish in your kitchen I refer the honorable gentleman to the point he made earlier..... pot & kettle spring to mind

For the next few weeks, I work at the perfect venue. ;D Retirement into a real life of work is imminently around the corner. As a result, cold sweats keep me awake at night ;D

I have started fishing again after about 30 years did a bit last 2 Cornwall holidays & have just replaced all my gear total catch to date 2 weaver fish & lots of crabs (marine sort) & weed but some nice evenings relaxed & mindless watching the wild life on the river (tidal so really sea fishing) & watching the lights come on along the Sussex coast from the harbour arm some how catching things is a secondary thing although some nice fresh fish for dinner would be a treat When it is wet & cold the computer or a good book occupies my time. Ah, the south.....where finding an authentic , genuine pub to visit; one with period features, that serves decent beer and ambience, requires more effort than in other regions of the country......

Don't gloat just because you live close to Nellies. There is good beer and 'authentic genuine' pubs to be had in the south if you know where to look. Not many its true. As well as some exceptional beer to be had, and unless things have changed a lot certain Northern pubs had wall seating only no loose chairs because the ambience was such that you didn't turn your back to the room. Something I have never seen in the South.

I enjoy a bit of fly fishing from time to time but don't get out nearly as much as I used to.
Used to do any type of fishing though.

interesting topic Fi.
I also like fishing, only fresh water type done though, would like to have a go at sea, from beach and vessel at some time. Scuba diving
Both these I struggle to find time to do, swmbo doesn't like fish,(1) swimming or biking !! so no chance of doing all three regularly. I figure fishing can take over from biking when I get too old for the bike !! 1/ she did do 2 two weeks in southern island fishing in the 80's, never again..

Cycling - on the road mainly in the winter, and mountain biking mainly in the summer. I will be racing in the Manx End to End in September (mountain bike race from top to bottom of the Isle of Man). Guy Martin did it last year, and says he is after a top 20 finish this year (he is half my age, but if I can get within an hour of his finishing time like I did last year, I will be well pleased). Like many others, I find I have less spare time since I retired - think its got something to do with relativity. Time dilution of the space continuinuinum thingy or some such. Oh, and I like eating and drinking too. And breathing is pretty cool, too. I hope to be able to keep doing that for many years to come. When I have to give that one up it may be time to think about stopping motorbiking

I am a dynamic figure, often seen scaling walls and crushing ice. I have been known to remodel train stations on my lunch breaks, making them more efficient in the area of heat retention. I translate ethnic slurs for Cuban refugees, I write award-winning operas, I manage time efficiently. Occasionally, I tread water for three days in a row. I woo women with my sensuous and godlike trombone playing, I can pilot bicycles up severe inclines with unflagging speed, and I cook Thirty-Minute Brownies in twenty minutes. I am an expert in stucco, a veteran in love, and an outlaw in Peru. Using only a hoe and a large glass of water, I once single-handedly defended a small village in the Amazon Basin from a horde of ferocious army ants. I play bluegrass cello, I was scouted by the Mets, I am the subject of numerous documentaries. When I'm bored, I build large suspension bridges in my yard. I enjoy urban hang gliding. On Wednesdays, after work, I repair electrical appliances free of charge. I am an abstract artist, a concrete analyst, and a ruthless bookie. Critics worldwide swoon over my original line of corduroy evening wear. I don't perspire. I am a private citizen, yet I receive fan mail. I have been caller number nine and have won the weekend passes. Last summer I toured New Jersey with a traveling centrifugal-force demonstration. I bat .400. My deft floral arrangements have earned me fame in international botany circles. Children trust me. I can hurl tennis rackets at small moving objects with deadly accuracy. I once read Paradise Lost, Moby Dick, and David Copperfield in one day and still had time to refurbish an entire dining room that evening. I know the exact location of every food item in the supermarket. I have performed several covert operations for the CIA. I sleep once a week; when I do sleep, I sleep in a chair. While on vacation in Canada, I successfully negotiated with a group of terrorists who had seized a small bakery. The laws of physics do not apply to me. I balance, I weave, I dodge, I frolic, and my bills are all paid. On weekends, to let off steam, I participate in full-contact origami. Years ago I discovered the meaning of life but forgot to write it down. I have made extraordinary four course meals using only a mouli and a toaster oven. I breed prizewinning clams. I have won bullfights in San Juan, cliff-diving competitions in Sri Lanka, and spelling bees at the Kremlin. I have played Hamlet, I have performed open-heart surgery, and I have spoken with Elvis. I also exaggerate

Outside of work I enjoy beer, socialising, tinkering with mechanical things, beer, motoring cycling, cycling, beer, driving and showing my classic Volkswagens, beer, spending time with my favourite wife and the children, campervaning (which was a way of integrating my vintage Volkswagen habit with the family) and finally beer *
* activities not necessarily in order of preference
