Hi all,
I have recently brought a 1997 XJ600s (Model number 4BR) which was originally a European import. As such it has a headlight that dips to the right instead of the left as the UK models do. I taped over part of the headlight as a short term solution to get the bike through an MOT however I am going to be doing some riding at night over the summer and as such want to try and fit a UK-style headlight.
I brought one off ebay recently that I thought would fit (as the description said it would fit a 1997 model) however when it turned up I realised that the shape of the headlight wasn't the same as the one already fitted on my bike. My exisiting one has a flat edge across the top of the headlight face whereas the replacement I brought has curved corners at the top.
I think the curved corners were a feature of earlier models (perhaps up to 1996) but I haven't been able to find out the exact year the altered shape was introduced (and if this was the same for European models at the time too).
I was hoping someone out there might know or if not that people with models from around the same time might be able to check theirs so I can narrow the years down. My aim is to try and buy another headlight but this time I wanted to make sure I knew what year I was looking for!
Cheers,
Ben =]
