Hello,
Just found this site, have owned a pre div xj6 for about a year and thinking of sticking a 900 engine in. Has anyone done this? If so is this fairly straight forward.
I have built the bike as a subtle streetfighter and don't want to get rid of it but am after more power but with reliability.
Thanks for reading.

Hi - Welcome to the forum . I would think it pretty unstraightforward to fit a 900 shaft drive motor into a pre-Divvy XJ600 frame . You'd be wanting a new front end too, as I suspect the forks wouldn't be up to coping with the increased motor performance. My opinion: Keep the 600 & buy a 900 to do up along side .

Forget it Look at the bike for what it is and if you want to go faster, buy a faster bike. I had a 400 I loved and tweaked the springy and stoppy bits, but left the engine alone except filter and pipe, as I knew it wouldn't ever go fast.

As well as a new front end you'd also need the D9 back end, well the swing arm anyway, which has the shaft running through it, plus the rear wheel because that mates with the bevel box.
Then to accommodate the bulk of the engine you'd have to cut and shut the frame to something like D9 dimensions. In other words, you'd end up with a D9, near enough, so probably best to save a lot of time and effort by getting a complete one in the first place!
As to whether you could make a decent streetfighter out of it, the standard D9 is hardly the coolest bike on the block, but I'm sure it's possible........

Thanks for the posts.
It does seem like it could be alot more hassle than its worth. It has been a thought in the back of my head, but fairly new to the xj's so thought I'd see what your opinions are.
So looks like she's keeping her heart then!
I think a complete xj 9 project may be the way forward, I realise they may not be the 'coolest' bikes around but I think thats what does it for me... I try and get some pictures up of my XJ 6.
Again, thanks for all the advice.
