Hi All,
I have a hole under my end can and need to remove it so a friend can weld it for me. I have a Motad 4 in 1 exhaust on a 1997 Diversion xj600 s I have tried to pull out the can from the downpipes but wont budge, what would be best way to remove the end can ?.
Thanks Tony

They can be a real tw@t to seperate, might be better removing the whole thing from the head, just remember to use plenty of WD40 in the studs, and fit new exhaust seals when refitting.

Hi cam7777,
Thanks, thought that might be the best way just checking no tricks here. So do i spray wd40 directly onto the studs, and leave overnight? The studs look like allen key types what bit size is it to use with a socket set for these studs?.
Thanks Tony

Spray as close to the engine where the studs go in, use loads of WD40 and leave overnight.
Use an allen socket as opposed to an allen key to undo, try gently knocking the bolt first before attempting to undo and go easy until there is slight movement, then spray again and repeat. If it moves a little and gets stiff, try doing it up a little and then try undoing again.
Patience is the key, take your time as there is a chance the old bolts could shear off.
Good luck

Are you sure it's not the water drain hole that you are looking at? Just to be sure

Hi Amorti, Thanks, it is a hole as white smoke comming out,and more noisier than before. Happend during bad overnight frost started bike and heard explosive noise and loads water on floor might have been water drain hole but larger now

Hi Sir m40man, I saw these too but due to awkwardness off access to these nuts i would prefer to replace with like nuts which are round in shape and can be better accessed with a long allen hex socket Thanks tony

I have used cheap studs before on a CB-1. I rounded the threads on half of them just putting them in, and a couple more taking them out when I realised it was a bad job. Cheap stuff in this application is not an option, use OE. You can replace header nuts with brass nuts, then if you do ever go at it ham-fisted, the nut will strip instead of the stud, which is much better. If you get the right socket set, it's easy to get at.

Hi Amorti, That's why i would not buy those cheapo ones off ebay, went to local Yamaha dealer today and ordered 4 nuts and a stud (OE) cost me £13 but probably worth the extra bucks in the end .
