Just packing my Divvy's Givis ready for tomorrow. We are setting off on our first tour - a small one to start with, just to see if we enjoy it - off to Northumbria for a couple of nights (planning to visit Alnwick, Bamburgh, Lindisfarne, etc. taking in the sights, some food and beer) then down to Whitby for a couple of nights (Robin Hood's Bay, Scarborough, Bridlington, fish and chips, beer), then we may or may not head further south for a couple of nights somewhere else (Mablethorpe, Skegness, the Wash, Norfolk, food, beer). I will post details and pictures when we return. Hoping for good weather Simon and Lynn

Many thanks for that, looks like an interesting route, passes Cadwell Park too. That will bring back pleasant memories. I hope we get time to try it. The first 4 nights are definite, anything after that depends on many things, weather, family, state of mind of passenger Thanks again, Simon

Didn't get that far South this time, unfortunately, but we will certainly do it at some time. The owner of our digs in Whitby gave us this route though, which was a belter - 60 miles of cracking roads across the North Yorkshire Moors. A bit of sheep-avoidance needed, but thats not a problem when you come from Cumbria. Hope this link works, I'm not good at this new-fangled IT Google maps stuff ;-) maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Whitby,+North+Yorkshire,+UK&daddr=54.47702,-0.658836+to:Unknown+road+to:Unknown+road+to:Hungate%2FA170+to:A169&hl=en&geocode=FVpgPwMdkJX2_ynXAhnyeRd_SDGgMldtofkMCg%3B%3BFWTnPQMdm2vx_w%3BFfCOPAMdBADy_w%3BFfSzOwMdyCr0_w%3BFTJAPwMdgPP1_w&mra=dpe&mrcr=0&mrsp=1&sz=13&via=1&sll=54.4843,-0.673084&sspn=0.048365,0.110378&ie=UTF8&ll=54.393352,-0.807495&spn=0.387781,0.883026&z=10&dirflg=d We rode it on the Wednesday afternoon, and there was hardly any traffic at all. Magic.

Magic. Sounds like you had a good time, and good weather too. you missed a cracking little road near your route though, the road around Goathland just left of the A169 you rode. It's been part of the last two Yorkshire runs, Heartbeat country

Magic. Sounds like you had a good time, and good weather too. you missed a cracking little road near your route though, the road around Goathland just left of the A169 you rode. It's been part of the last two Yorkshire runs, Heartbeat country We did the loop in and out of Goathland - it was indeed a cracker - just couldn't persuade Google Maps that I wanted to show it! Someone had recently hit the bridge over the railway there and knocked some large blocks of stone onto the embankment. Easy done I would guess - some tight bends and steep drops just before it coming the other way. Lovely to ride up. We enjoyed the blast over from Pickering to Whitby so much that we came home that way too, then Thirsk, Masham, and through the dales back to Kendal. Had an absolutely brilliant few days riding, starting A6 to Penrith, over Hartside, back lanes all the way to Alnwick. Good digs in the Mason's Arms at Rennington, went to Lindisfarne over the causeway, followed the coast roads as much as we could down to Whitby - the Tyne tunnel is scary on a bike on a hot day - smoky and you can hardly breathe - stayed in the Arches guesthouse in Whitby - run by an exiled Manx biker called Richard Brew (he is really called by the shortened version of Richard, but the Proboards censorship engine changes it to "thingy" which looks silly!). Fantastic host, even turned his Pan out of his garage so I could park my Divvie in there. Awesome breakfasts. If you are looking to stay in Whitby I can recommend him. Superb weather. Just finished cleaning tar spots and roadkill off my bike, which performed faultlessly. Loaded up with panniers and SWMBO it was still only taking 16 or 17 litres to fill it after 180 miles or so each time. I guess I dont really need to stop before 200 miles, but the guage reads empty before that, and I don't fancy running out miles from a petrol station. Can't wait for the next trip now Just uploading some photos to photobucket now, will see if I can post one or two later.
