So I am the new owner of a Divvy 600, 1994, can anyone please help me?
First problem I have is I have gone to service the bike so I have a known service interval (bike has only done 20k) the original exhaust has been replaced with a 4 to 1 down pipe and the down pipes now cover the sump plug. Is this common, do I really have to drop the exhaust off just to change the oil?
Second problem is a little more worrying, there is a rattle noise at idle, I had been told it might be the crank chain adjuster, but having taken it out and inspected it, it looked OK, and using the screwdriver to the ear trick, the rattle is not coming from the chain vicinity, its more like the gearbox end. The noise goes when a gear is engaged and the clutch is released just to the bight point, but returns when the clutch is right out, or all in. Is this a simple clutch issue, or a more serious gearbox issue? anyone any ideas?
Thanks, Michael

So I am the new owner of a Divvy 600, 1994, can anyone please help me? Congrats . ....First problem I have is I have gone to service the bike so I have a known service interval (bike has only done 20k) the original exhaust has been replaced with a 4 to 1 ..... do I really have to drop the exhaust off just to change the oil? No. Most with this issue have managed with a flattened ring spanner, to get in enough to undo the sump plug. Second problem is a little more worrying, there is a rattle noise at idle, ......returns when the clutch is right out, or all in. This is no problem at all, unless you're having actual probs with the clutch action. But if you think yours is particularly bad you can replace the suspect clutch release bearing, which some have done with satisfactory results. Someone who's done it will hopefully be along to explain the 'how-to' .

Thanks for the advice, I will have to invest in some ring spanners then, other spanner just started to twist off the head.
I'll check out the clutch too. just reading through the haynes...

Haynes doesn't mention the clutch rattle, I don't think, but it's a constant topic on here. The short answer is, "They all do that, sir." There are lots of threads on this topic, e.g.: diversionclub.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=techarticles&action=display&thread=6319Whereabouts are you? It's possible that another 600 owner is nearby and could have a listen to yours (and you could listen to his/hers and compare notes - if you want to be really nerdy about it). Anyhow, welcome to Divvydom - Bob

Cheers Bob, I am in Harrogate and can;t really travel anywhere with it just yet, still need MOT & TAX but working on it.
Got to work out how to get the sump plug out so I can change the oil (exhaust pipes are in the way)

Sump plugs are scary soft - a 12 point ring spanner or socket can chew off the corners especially if there's a big chamfer inside the spanner. 6 point sokets are often better.
Also thick carefully which way the spanner has to go. Its all too easy to tighten when should be loosening (how would I know that? :-( )
The engine will rattle worse if the idle is too slow.

got it sorted now cheers, managed to get an open spanner on the back of the bolt (from the rear of the engine, rather than from the front) and cracked it open. while it was off, I filed the flats off again so a ring will fit nicely, ready for next service time.

A six point stamped spanner might be better, nice and flat and with 6 points unlikely to round off the sump plug.

Whereabouts are you? It's possible that another 600 owner is nearby and could have a listen to yours (and you could listen to his/hers and compare notes - if you want to be really nerdy about it). Its on the road now, is there anyone who lives local ish that could have a listen to the rattle, to see if its the usual clutch rattle and nothing to worry about ?? cheers, Michael
