Ok I've done some trawling and reading but not 100% sure where my problem is.
Background
My bike has been running weel for a while.
about a week ago I started getting the signs that I was low fuel and bike was juddery (this was after 70 miles running from the full tank) so I refueled and all is good.
Unfortuantely the last two days I ahve the following...
a) Bike runs fine for the first 5 miles or so (starting on a full tank) then i get erratic performance at 5000revs in top gear, I find myself with full throttle but no acceleration, but then it'll kick in, throttle off, and it goes to erattic performance.
When this happens if I pull the clutch in the engine cuts out.
this goes on until the bike just loses all power and I find my self sat on the road side.
I wait a minute or 2, and open the choke, fire up the bike and it starts, if I turn the accelerator over it cuts out. I restart and leave for about a minute. The bike runs but after about a mile or 2 performance goes erratic and i go back to point a above...
From what I have read it, this could be a few things?
Clogged carbs? water in tank? filter blocked?
HELP

Sounds like fuel starvation, so my first thought would be the tank vent. If, as soon as you get the symtoms, you pull over & open the fuel filler cap as if to refuel, it gets better, the fuel cap's little vent hole is blocked. (Obviously you'll need your spare key, to open the filler whilst engine is still running!).
Try that, & if that isn't the problem, move on to the next check, which for me would be to in the following order: Check the air filter is clean, if good then.. Drain the tank & look for water contamination (especially if bike is outside a lot, in the rain.) If OK, then ... Replace the in-line fuel filter (hopefully one is fitted!).
I'd do the above before anything else, because they are in the likely order of cause & are cheap or free to do. HTH.

If it's not a blocked vent, it's more likely to be something like a coil breaking down than water in the fuel.
But it's probably the blocked vent. Lift the tank off (You have no idea how lucky you are that this is a 3-screw + 2 hose job btw, it's 13 screws and 5 hoses on my triumph) and have a look, on these it seems to be easy to kink the drain hose against the frame or by the rear engine bolts. Once identified, you should be able to blow up and down it, if not then blow compressed air through to clean.

ok tried to start my bike this morning, sounded really Rough.
I sprayed clearer into the carbs, drained the tank, checked the hoses (one was slightly twisted) moved a few hoses about.
Took off the pertol cap, checked it, cleaned it.
Checked the plugs.
after all was done, I started the bike, sounded much better, rode it 10 miles no issues.
fingers crossed
MANY THANKS
