Hello.
I'm thinking of converting my 1997 S model to Naked. I'm sure number of people have done this. Please post some general thoughts about the project. Specially if you have any experince with aftermarket gauges like Acewell or Koso.

I think you might be a bit alone here, tbh.
There is no recipe, very much how you 'do it' yourself or go close to the real N. Wiring on both models are the same so headlamp(s) shouldn't be hard to resolve once you've organised some mounts on the forks. Clocks are open to interpretation, keeping the Diversion ones or importing another set up, I'm not sure. The ignition switch on yours will probably have to stay as the N version is totally different as it's mounted with the standard speedo/rev counter pods. Winkers and horn have to find a home too as the S has fixings to the fairing I believe.
Nothings impossible though.
Good luck.

Unless your fairing is no good, I wouldn't bother. There are various differences you may not have thought of - different top yoke to mount the different clocks on a different bracket, requiring a different clutch cable, for example. Then you have to hide all the cabling, get a headlight and bracket, remount the indicators. The head stock panels' mounting points are different.
It'll be a big ball-ache that will cost you more than trading the bike in for a 600N or even something better (bandit, fazer, etc)

The fairing actually suits what the bike was built to do, so it will be more sell- able with a fairing than without. Custom jobs are usually worth less than either the S they were or the N version they are trying to become.

I found out that in the Diversion site in US are shown lots of different naked conversions. My plan is make the changes without any cutting or welding so I can transform the bike back to normal if I want. I have started to like the classic look of motorbikes. And 600N is quite near that look. In Finland there are a lot of S models around but N models are really rare.
Here is a list and prises what I have to buy to make the conversion. - New speedo (130€) - New headlamp and bracket (100€) - optional windshield (35€) - new mirrors (25€)
together 290€ (240pounds).
My plan is to keep the divvy several years so I'm not going to sell or trade it for any other bike. Actually I'm wondering why people here are against any mods for the bike. Yes, divvy is not the fastest, best looking or sexiest bike there is, but I think it's very good. I have used divvy for touring with people who had expensive BMW's and I have driven gravel roads against Transalps and other DS bikes. Always divvy has been ultra reliable and capable.
Actually one Finnish technical magazine gave diversion 4 stars out 5 against Fazer (4stars),bandit(5 stars) and sv650 (3stars), just because it is so easy going, comfortable and cheap way of having fun. So I don't think it is a lesser bike.
I will post some pictures of the project when I start it next winter. Now I'm keeping peace in Kosovo and when I'm on leave I will ride my soft and underpowered Divvy as much I can. ;D
