ive got a 1993 L reg xj600s, occasionaly after leaving it standing for 3 to 4 days it takes a while to start it, after about 10 to 15 seconds of starter being pressed, i was told this is due to the bike having a vacum assisted fuel system, when i asked a motorcycle mechanic, i was told that when the bike is stood for a while the petrol takes a while to get to the carbs. is this right,

Use the "Prime" position on the petrol tap - this lets the fuel flow straight down to the carbs without having to wait for a vacuum to build up.

It shouldn't be that bad after only a few days. The fuel supply needs a thorough going over including the tank air vent and making sure fuel and vac pipes haven't separated internally or split.
